Des Moines Lincoln High School Coach Update

Maybe you should go cry to your mommy about it Ghost. Exact same thing happened on my team in 8th freaking grade. Wasn't on twitter, but through the grapevine. Kid got berated in front of the entire team. I'll be damned if I didn't see that kid at a sports bar in Ankeny last football season. I couldn't believe he survived the horror!

That cool story would have been a lot better if said former 8th grader had confided in you at the sports bar that berating made him the man he is today!!!

I feel bad for the people who are defending this coach. Did they go through this sort of abuse themselves as children so they think it's ok?

Or maybe they agree that the kid needs to get off his mommy's ##$# and stop getting babied over every little thing. I mean at first it was he was made to run for 2 hours and that was a flat out big lie as it was a whole 25-30min omg what punishment...that family lied about that got to wonder what else they are lying about

Both Coach Alessio and Coach Bianchi deny they ever heard concerns regarding the tweet expressed by other players prior to the alleged incidents on Monday, September 3, 2012. Only the accused coaches have provided any statements to suggest the decision to have the Complainant address the varsity football team and recite his tweet was intended to quell a disturbance among student athletes that was already in progress. In fact, statements reportedly made by the Respondent during the time that Complainant addressed the team appear to have the intent of inciting the varsity players. Therefore, Respondent’s[The Coach's] claims, that a concern for the Complainant’s well-being and a fear of retaliation prompted the decision to have the Complainant recite the tweet in front of the team, are not credible.

From the report. Stop defending this lunatic TC.

So like I said there never was anything told to the players to go bet the crap out of the kid...your reaching at best here Ghost.

The only reason he made him go and tell the varsity players what he said was so that they could hear about it and exert some of their own internal discipline. There was no other reason to do that. And the intent was also to keep him running until the varsity was done practicing so that he would have to be in the locker room at the same time as them. That is obvious.

These things happened when I played. We had to run every time someone left a piece of their equipment out. One kid kept leaving stuff out over and over. So we took matters into our own hands... he left his helmet out one day and we all took turns taking a dump in it. He didn't leave anything out after that. But if our coach would have known about it we all would have been suspended for God knows how long.

There are three problems with what he did. One, he read a tweet from a kid on the Sophomore team and got butt hurt about it instead of ignoring it like an adult. Two, rather than dealing with it in private like a man, he pulled him away from Sophomore practice, stood him in front of the varsity, and tried to make his entire team aggressive towards one student (basically abusing his authority as coach to settle a score). Three, he tried to get the kid to work out until the varsity practice ended, so the varsity players could kick his *** in the locker room.

I have zero problem with him making him run hills. That should have been the one and only punishment he faced. Basically inviting the varsity team to beat the hell out of him is beyond the pale, psycho behavior that has no place in coaching or education.

You once again prove how out of touch with reality you really are.

Ghost, I don't like ya most of the time but I'll admit when I'm wrong. I was looking at a different news source that didn't have all of the information that was posted on here. Once I read it I changed my opinion very quickly. Sorry for being an ***.

I just read the whole report and aside from the tweet incident this is pretty damn disturbing as well:

Larry Beall, former teacher at Lincoln High School, alleged that while working as a member of the down and distance crew at home football games at Lincoln High School, he frequently heard Respondent and assistant coaches on his staff directing profane, abusive language at student athletes during games. Beall alleged that during one particular game, he heard Tony Mihalovich, Respondent’s brother and a former assistant coach, say to a student athlete as he exited the field after making a bad play during a game, “You mother****er **********. You better get your *** in gear, or I am kicking you off this team.” Beall stated he and another member of the crew reported this to Phil Chia, Athletic Director.
Beall alleged that at the next home game following the report, Respondent confronted Beall in front of the student athletes and said, “You know, if you have a problem with this program, talk to me directly instead of going behind my back.” Following this exchange, Beall alleged he was shadowed, shoulder-to-shoulder, by a man throughout the game who whispered threats such as “You mess with this coaching staff and you’re in trouble” and “[Respondent] is the best thing that happened to this south side.” Beall alleged he asked that the man back out of his personal space several times, but the man would not leave him alone. Beall alleged he was disturbed by this interaction to the extent that he elected to walk off the field and quit the crew at half-time. Beall alleged he and other members of the crew reported that Beall was being shadowed and threatened by a stranger to Phil Chia, who approached the man and asked him to back away. Beall reported he finished out the game, but that it was his last; following these incidents, he quit the team.

Now I don't think the coach did anything wrong in this instance here at all, but some of the stuff that has happened in the past is very disturbing

On a side note, and this post could possibly be in the politics section, but I'm sickened with bullying legislation and prosecution. Bullying crimes are hate crimes' little brothers (or sisters)...

So, Mihalovich has been bullied into, IMO, permanent leave from Lincoln. Why is the DSM school board's bullying of Mihalovich acceptable while Mihalovich's isn't? Does the state constitution allow for some authority to determine and setup those anti-bullying, and anti-hate crimes standards?

While bullying or hate crimes legislation are not consistant, throw both legislations out.

I am not reading this entire thread, but I agree with this assessment here. The guy acted like a child over a tweet from a 15 year old.

Has he been successful, yes, but anyone who has been associated with tackle football in DM could tell you that they are not surprised by any of this. If the school board is guilty of anything, it is that they did not end this guys reign sooner.

The difference is that Mihalovich is submitting to a process that is district policy which he agreed to as part of his employment, is allowed to speak in his defense, and will have the opportunity to appeal any punishment handed out.

If you're trying to equate what he did to the child to what the district is doing to him, a more apt comparison would be if he had to stand in front of the child's extended family, while the kid stood behind him and yelled "TELL THEM WHAT YOU ******* DID!".

If the kid didn't want to be humiliated in front of his peers he should have said he nasty things about them in a tweet that anybody can read. Add on top of it he did it while at the valley/dialing game instead if going to watch his teammates play. I say the kid got what he deserved and he should have been made to applogize for the crap he said about them. As for the other stuff it has no effect on what he did here and the sissy kid go what he deserved.

Do you know why he was at that game? I do. You know nothing, pal.

Trust me if it this was your kid who did this you wouldn't be talking this way. No way!!

BS. If my kid ran his mouth about his team like that, and was so confident as to put it out on twitter, he can face the consequences. The same would go for him as an adult if he posted something about his company. He would get his *** fired. This is a teachable moment. His parents have taught him that Mommy and Daddy can bail him out when he acts like a little punk. I have a son. He's very young, but I assure you, I will not be raising a kid like these little entitled pukes I see running around.

If he takes out the curse word, does it make you feel better? Do you think that was the first time he's ever heard the word before, how about said it himself? Have you used the word before? Does it make you a less mature adult? It's football, it's intense; coached and played by intense people. The team is a bonding unit, if one says the things the kid says, they will be called out. This scenario would have been played out the exact same way by the coaches at any school in the country. Confession, running, cursing all included.
