Crennel: Stanzi "unlikely" to play today

I was kind of excited when I saw the Colts scored on a pick 6. Then I heard it wasn't Rick.

Coach has nothing to gain by that except by looking like an even bigger idiot for not playing him all year if Stanzi lights it up, or even just proves competent.

Or maybe he knows Stanzi is not a viable NFL QB, oh wait, how can I say such a thing when the hasn't gotten a chance?

Stanzi is about as competent at Drew Stanton NFL wise.

I am sorry to pee in people's Cheerios here, but he really wasn't that great. He made a ton a horrible choices and they year they needed him to not make those horrible choices, senior year, because the defense laid some eggs, he didn't. The Arizona game comes to mind the most. The Wildcats dropped at least 5 INT's and Stanzi missed a ton of open wide receivers that would have won the game for them. You can talk numbers and ratings, but throw those out and if you can honestly say he had a phenomenal career then you are lying to yourself.

i'll be shocked if he's on the team after this year. if he's not good enough to get a snap on this team, why keep him?

This a familiar story except people are on the other side of the story now. People complaining about Rudock not getting playing time, but it's okay that Stanzi isn't.

Yeah, he made some horrible choices with all 6 INT's he threw his senior year. Lucked out and threw for 3k yards and 25 TD's too. Oh, and that 64% completion percentage was because he made so many bad decisions on where to throw the ball.

This is the problem right here, you think that his numbers determined how good of a player he really was. The Arizona game was a microcosm of his season. He had good numbers, but many missed opportunities and had some luck with the defense dropping balls. His stats aren't everything, why can't you understand that? It is like Troy Aikman vs. Tony Romo...Romo has far better stats than Aikman, but who would you rather have? Kinda like the ignorant argument of Stanzi's passer rating compared to Chuck Long's, what guy would you rather have?

When Selection Sunday is coming up people talk about the "eye test" all the time...does Rick Stanzi pass your "eye test," if so, you are a true Hawkeye fan who is incapable of being objective to your own players.

There have been far better Iowa QB's that played with less talent and have far less numbers, it is sometimes about what talent you have around you. Stanzi made a lot of safe throws that helped his numbers, but he also had a ton of talent around him.

Aikman was just a product of an unbelievable offensive line and group of skill players. If Aikman had to play with the line Romo has had, he would be knocked out for the season after a couple games.

IMHO Ricky was an above average college quarterback but was questionable for the NFL. You need to be able to read the field, make decisions and fire the ball much faster than I think he was capable of, even with additional development and NFL coaching.

i think Rick probably has a nice future in coaching though. he's exactly the type to make a great coach. hard worker, film junkie, good college QB but not great.

Maybe Stanzi just isn't good enough.

Thank you for your valuable contribution to this thread. Perhaps you should focus on the Iowa State players who aren't good enough to play. For the record that's every single one. I'm convinced that you kill brain cells every time you have a thought.
