Crennel: Stanzi "unlikely" to play today

Brian is a good hire, I know people don't see it, but it may be just who Iowa needs on staff that will allow KF to let his assistants get back to doing what they did when KF first got there and Iowa year after year was said to have the best staff in the Big Ten.

You know that is only because of his last name. I don't understand it, I'm not qualified for the job, why do I care if he hired his son, who do these people want? I haven't seen anyone bring up a person who they know applied for the job and didn't get it that was more qualified. It all comes from people who don't like KF anymore.

It seems that many at the Senior Bowl practices after Ricky's senior season did not share Sportstalent's sentiments. Here are a few quotes:

"Overall, he’s the one quarterback on the North roster who seems to always be in control of his surroundings, does a nice job of deciphering information quickly and has the kind of ball placement and arm strength needed to make him one of the more intriguing QB prospects in this year’s draft. Looks like a guy with starting potential at the next level that could be had for a bargain in the mid rounds. It’s been a very good week for Stanzi in Mobile."

"It's the final day of Senior Bowl practices and for the most part what's been done is done. There won't be a whole lot a final day of practice will change. There were some players who definitely hurt their draft stock and some who definitely helped their draft stock. After the jump, I'm going to give you some guys that I think hurt their stock and helped their stock. In this post we'll focus on the winners."

WINNERS

Ricky Stanzi, QB, Iowa

"Ricky Stanzi came into the game with most viewing him as a great back up with starting quarterback potential, but surprised a lot of on-lookers with his size and his arm. Stanzi measured in at a legit 6-5, bigger than most expected him to be. Most knew he had the arm to make all of the throws, but he impressed with his arm being stronger than most expected. Stanzi wasn't great during the week, but he wasn't bad either. He improved each day and showed good decision making and poise. He was even keel through the week and showed he could work through his progressions."

But Sportstalent says Ricky couldn't and can't make the throws and makes bad decisions??? It's funny, because I live in KC and I heard reporters say that on some days, Stanzi was clearly the best quarterback in camp before the season started. I have no idea if Ricky will ever make it. But I have heard and read alot of first hand assessments, that contradict 100% of what Sportstalent says?

So why hasn't he played if all those reports are true!

He is on the least talented group of QB's in the NFL minus Buffalo and he has no reported injuries so why isn't he playing...not a rookie anymore either?

You go by practices...that translates to the field...grasping at straws.

Let me know when I am wrong.

Coaches make stupid decisions all the time. Are you saying because Sanchez started in the league as much as he did he better than anyone at backup in the NFL? Sometimes the more likeable guy beats out the rational of expert analysis. Most the money was being paid to Cassel, and Quin is a baby face who played at Notre Dame. I'm not saying Stanzi should have started day one, but why wouldn't you want to know what you had in him when it counts before drafting two more QBs in 2013.

I think it is pretty clear the current GM and head coach have mis-managed this team this year. Why would the quarterback position be handled any differently? It is easy to say that Ricky is not playing because he is not competent. But maybe the incompetence of the Chief's organization is the reason he has not seen the field?

Maybe they know what they have in him from seeing him in practice everyday.

Sanchez wasn't even that good at USC so his play should only be a surprise to the Jets and nobody else.

Quinn was not good at ND either, put up some numbers and falls in line with Stanzi, does not transition to NFL, but 1st round picks get lots of chances even when they do nothing to prove it.

QB is a mystery, but some your gut is just right.

That kind of rings a bell?! You may be onto something about Iowa?

He isn't playing because America's QB would win too many games and lose them a #1 pick.

Maybe/probably Stanzi isn't good enough to play, but it doesn't mean that Crennel is not a lousy head coach. It is curious why he's not even getting some mop up time, which just so happens to be most of a Chiefs game.

This is pure uneducated/unintelligent speculation but maybe Crennel thinks Stanzi sucks, doesn't want to parade him out there for others to see. Then in the off season the Chiefs (if Crennel is still around) will trade him. He is worth more healthy and not played than banged up and sucked on national TV.

May as well go get a real job as he is never going to play

A career in the NFL as a back QB is a REAL job. Just because he isn't starting you think he should give up his dream and make less money doing something else. Yeah, that makes complete sense.

Actually, I have missed terribly on Russell Wilson, but then again it is his first year in the NFL and one year doesn't guarantee sustained success ask me what I thought of Tom Brady coming out, not what the scouts thought and the rest of the NFL...you hit on some and miss on some. If Stanzi ever becomes a player in the NFL then you can say "told you so" until then, what I have seen appears correct.

I appreciate that. A guy who can admit when he's wrong gains credibility in my book. Your caveat about his first year is fair, though I personally believe he'll sustain his success.

As for Stanzi, never forget there are DOZENS of excellent college QBs Rick's age that aren't in the NFL right now. Doesn't mean you're wrong or that he'll ever play, but it does mean some highly-paid talent evaluators disagreed with you.

Meanwhile, may I present your Brady Quinn Moment of Zen:

Billso, it looks as if Brady Quinn realized that he didn't wash his hands and he gotta a little messy while wiping after going #2 and he say said poo as he called hike and was scrambling to get it off his hands before the ball is hiked.

Could you imagine him fumbling the ball and the defensive guy gets on the ball and looks down in the poo on the ball and it's inches from his face. Really gotcha watch that stuff, if he gets that in his eye he could get pink eye.

They showed their incompetence when they drafted Stanzi.

It's like he is calling his wife's dog that is looking back at him wagging its tail, but will never go to him. Eventually, Brady just has to walk away and admit defeat by the dog and the NFL.
