Here is a tweet from him tonight:

It's about that time that I close this chapter in my life and get ready to move on.. I got a great family and gf and friends #thankful

Not sure it means that but wouldn't be surprised. Fran is recruiting another PG hard and where would Payne fit in as a #3 option at PG?

Why assume he'd be the number 3?

Cartwright and if Fran brings in a JUCO then they are #2. Plus Payne would be a year behind, experience. Payne could play the 2 guard though.
 
His previous tweet was about how good Stevens is because he coached under Lickliter.

I hope he's not planning on transferring but it's starting to look like it

I'm aware of Cartwright...I'm asking why would you give a juco the #2 sight unseen...and I doubt Cully forgot how to play basketball when he got hurt.
 
Is there any chance that he's just hanging it up? With his lingering back injury, maybe he's decided that it's time to give up basketball and move on? The way he listed the things he has made me think that may be what he's alluding to. He may not have basketball, but he's still got a great family, girlfriend, and friends.

Could be way off, just a possibility. Either way, this would be a pretty big blow.

You're right...he says "close this chapter"...which can mean a number of things and I can definitely see where you're coming from. I would rather see him transfer than not be able to play basketball anymore...so I hope you're wrong.
 
This is not neccesarily a bad thing. Bring in a JUCO PG or Fr with a bigger body and some 3 pt range.

I wish Cully the best but think it will be for the best in the long run.
 
If the tweet is true then why doesn't he explain it better? Tweeters tweet that they just farted so why not more info?

If he is leaving, then it puts tremendous pressure on Fran to get a PG in this class. If we don't get one, we could be in real trouble next year, or in the long run. Marble needs to be able to focus on being a swingman, not a backup point guard.
 
I saw this too, only I hopes its not true. I liked Cully and think this team could use a year without defections. Plus, its not like we have recruits knocking down our doors right now that we know of. And we don't have any need to free up a scholly that I can tell.

1. Limited characters per tweet.
2. Perhaps it's not really intended for all of us. People who he's close to probably have a better understanding of the situation than we do. I'm sure those people know what he means by that tweet, one way or another.

Gotta crank it out in 140 characters or less...and when guys get vague about things it's usually because they haven't told everyone who needs to know but they can't just sit on the info either...I guess I'm trying to say that they use Twitter for "venting" when they're not ready for "announcing"...
 
He's gone according to Hawkeyereport.

Eli Carter becomes incredibly important, and maybe even Washpun becomes a viable option.
