Cory Clark-v-Jack Hathaway--2nd Round Match Up?

I completely disagree. there are 289 iowa schools that have wrestling. if you eliminate 2 classes it would severely hurt the sport. it cuts out 2/3rds of kids who walk around proud that they were a state qualifier, place winner, champ, etc. That would not help our sport grow. With less opportunity for success, less kids would wrestle in college, get into coaching, or pass on the sport in general. Imagine the state tournament w/ way less of all the small school kids there. I bet a lot of the 1a schools would even drop wrestling if that was the case. Iowa is great because it's a wrestling state. you don't try to change that.

I'm in your boat. Sure, it ups the competition a few notches, but it gives wayyyy less kids a chance and I wouldn't like that. The state wrestling tournament is like no other experience and I think it works fine the way it is now, except for the whole having the duals and individual tournament the same week.

Help me out here. Why do you say it gives kids less chances? Are you talking about the competition? It works fine if that's what you like.;)

No thanks. I don't think you're gonna be able to grasp where those of us opposed to one big class are coming from, and obviously your mind is already made up on what you prefer.

I don't disagree with this but do think it is crazy the #1, #2, #4, and #5 are all on the same side of the bracket. Devos has to be one happy kid knowing that as the #3 seed he avoids Clark/Hathaway until the finals and the highest seeded wrestler he faces until the finals is seeded #6.
They aren't seeds, they are rankings. I know what your saying the way it is layed out but it's the luck of the draw.

Here is the matchup when Hathaway beat Clark. That is a close one, can't tell if he got the far ankle for a TD or not.

Someone posted a while ago that Clark really needs to work on his offense while on his feet, and I agree. He goes to his knee too early and fails to get back up quickly. It seems like he takes a half shot and then is stuck in a headlock and then has to work his way out of it. Something he will need to develop in college.

Also, excuse my ignorance of HS wrestling, but what kind of coach does he have at that level? Are they good enough to teach advanced moves from the top and positions they need to avoid or get in? I really don't know. Also, is there no riding time in HS?

I can grasp anything if it's explained to me by a person who knows what he's talking about. I never did like having people think for me nor people who write stuff they can't back.

Cory Clark won 3-0. Scoreless 1st Period. Clark rode out Hathaway in the 2nd. Clark started down in the 3rd. Escaped right away and got a quick TD. Rode out the period for the 3-0 win.

It's great to see Clark so tough on top already. Riding out a top level talent like Hathaway for an entire period is pretty impressive. Looks like another Clark vs. Devos matchup if they hold strong in their next matches. If Cory gets his fourth title, he will definitely have earned it! That is one stacked bracket.

Listening to KCJJ broadcast, it sounds like Hathaway was not looking/feeling too well after getting ridden like that. Clark had several arm bars in pretty tight, trying to turn Hathaway. A number were stopped as being potentially dangerous. Clark dominated and could meet up with Devos on Saturday night.

hell of a match and expect a great finals match as well!

its hard to wrestle someone you have wrestled so many times but the best wrestler won today congrats to cory clark there was A LOT of pressure on this young man just to get past this match
