I completely disagree. there are 289 iowa schools that have wrestling. if you eliminate 2 classes it would severely hurt the sport. it cuts out 2/3rds of kids who walk around proud that they were a state qualifier, place winner, champ, etc. That would not help our sport grow. With less opportunity for success, less kids would wrestle in college, get into coaching, or pass on the sport in general. Imagine the state tournament w/ way less of all the small school kids there. I bet a lot of the 1a schools would even drop wrestling if that was the case. Iowa is great because it's a wrestling state. you don't try to change that.
I'm in your boat. Sure, it ups the competition a few notches, but it gives wayyyy less kids a chance and I wouldn't like that. The state wrestling tournament is like no other experience and I think it works fine the way it is now, except for the whole having the duals and individual tournament the same week.
