Combine Results

Van Ness did 17 reps on bench which was 24th of 25 DE's. If that hurts him, that's stupid. Watch the film.

Here he is against Peter Skoronski, 1st OT taken in Mel Kiper's most recent mock draft at #10 showing his lack of strength: https://twitter.com/BenFennell_NFL/status/1555712533457158146

Here he is against Paris Johnson Jr, 2nd OT taken in Mel Kiper's most recent mock draft at #11 showing his lack of strength: https://twitter.com/Brownscentral_/status/1610649812512247808

Here he is against OSU's #74: https://twitter.com/Brownscentral_/status/1610667975383699462

These 3 plays alone should wipe out any doubt about his strength because of his 17 reps...unless you're my Browns. Analytics > film. Dumbasses.
I'd seen somewhere that Myles Garretts attributes weren't a whole lot different then his either. The freakiest part of him was his vertical Garrets was like 40 plus and just ridiculous. But the rest of what they all did was pretty close. Van Ness will be an impactful pro I don't think there's any doubt

Interesting story indeed.

He wanted to go to Sparty and play both BB and FB.

Saban nixed the idea of BB so Gates moved on (a few times) and finally ended up playing MAC-level BB.

As far as FB, he was privately worked out by the Chargers who immediately signed him.
Crazy.

They really do look similar in their measurements other than the vertical as you said. I've watch both players a lot over the years and neither of them do a lot of vertical jumping during games. ;) I think for Myles, and it should be true of Lukas, the film will do the talking. Myles has bend and balance that you won't see anywhere. You can pause a film and it looks like there's no way he can recover and stay on his feet, but he does. He's a freak. Lukas had great numbers at the combine, but his film really shows his strength and quickness and will make him a high draft pick.

Lukas
6'5" 272
Arm--34
Hand--11
40--4.58
10-yard--1.64
Vertical--31
Broad jump--9'10"
Bench--17

Myles
6'4" 272
Arm--35.25
Hand--10.25
40--4.64
10-yard--1.63
Vertical--41
Broad jump--10'8"
Bench--33

Would be interesting to see if anyone has done an actual statistical correlation between Combine scores and NFL success/failure.

You hear of the "busts" Mandarich, Mamula, Gholston, etc., but rarely hear of the antithesis.
I'm pretty sure Emmet Smith was very mediocre in the measurables

Nonstarters even getting drafted is probably pretty rare. That quarterback from the real USC got drafted, but I think it was late. Barry Sanders only started a year and was a first rounder, but he probably would have been a first rounder even if he didn't start a year.

Well, if you recall.... Sanders played behind a guy who was pretty good: Thurman Thomas.
