Combine Results

Oh definitely. Bringing them in at 225-235 is about ideal. The outlaws 40 didn't do him any favors, maybe you can adjust slightly because of his game speed, but it didn't help.
Really even if you have a backers at 230 and sub 4.5 which is fairly good, then you can certainly have an elusive, rb at 210 -215. As for height, I'd rather have a taller lb than a rb.
Really we are talking 2in and 20 lbs or so. That's why the intangibles are important. Which should help JJ and AW.
Now db's, wr's and Te's I would definitely place slightly more value on height, weight, vertical, wing span and 40. Db's and wrs have to excel at speed or vertical or they get smoked (as the past has shown us).
Te is just a bigger version and usually slightly slower.
But not always.
I seem to remember watching one of ours turn on the jets. :)
You know what I'd like to know ( which we never will) Is what's the 40 times of all the current starters at MLB? (other any other positions for that matter) But in Jewels case I'd be interested to know what he's up against there. Kuechly is pretty much the best of the best right? I bet he runs under a 4.7ish. But the rest of them where are they? What Jewel lacks in strait line speed he makes up for in everything else football related. He's tall enough big enough strong enough It's not so much how fast you are but it's about not taking any wasted steps and keeping yourself from being blocked for long if at all. He's as good as any MLB Iowa's ever had at reading/reacting to plays pre & post snap. He'll be a great NFL linebacker for someone

Intangibles. Same with AW. Same with Ol and DL.
The numbers don't tell me whole story and that holds more true the closer you get to the trenches. Our lines do fairly well at the collegic level and
beyond. They could be a little bigger, but again 10-15 lbs doesn't tell the whole story. Except qb of course. I mean you don't see very many 5'10 5'11 qbs. Behind 6'6 lines.

Yeah the Doug Flouties are a thing of the past. Wilson and Brees are about as short as it gets nowadays. And they have to be above and beyond an average player to make it or they just wouldn't have been given the chance. The OU Heisman winner coming in Mayfield isn't much taller than 6'0 I don't think so it'll be interesting to see how he does

Wilson was a freak. Plus he had that I'm going to beat you attitude also. Not cocky but just a hey let's play and see what happens type person.
Brees is like Payton very very intelligent. Look at Cousins, everyone knew he would play also.

As a 49er fan I've seen enough of Wilson to know he's just a damn good player. Hard not to respect him. He wasn't really all that his first yr even though he won the job from that former Packer who signed as a FA. But once he got his feet under him he's been awesome. And yeah Brees is Brees. HOFer no doubt about it. Another year or two of padding stats will just solidify it

Cj has a shot at making some noise. He will get faster at it for sure. That's what the older guys understand, if the line can't protect you, just live until the next down. Young guys are fighting for a spot or to be told they don't have to worry. They hold on to it longer or try and force it. But he did pretty good and will just get better.

CJ will have to bide his time and just be ready whenever an injury happens. I think he's in a great spot to just learn and be a backup for awhile and as his GM Lynch said he can be the next Jimmy G in a few years. Being a backup QB knocking down 800k isn't a bad gig and if you flash enough in the cameos you make in pre season someone else will want to take a chance you then. Kinda like that Bama QB McAarron. He's goin to have someone sign him to a pretty darn good deal this off season and he's hardly played.

Definitely a little opportunity never hurt anyone. Unless they squander it.
He's smart and a pretty good baller so I can't really see him not getting an opportunity sometime, somewhere.
Cousins had to wait and he was probably just as ready as Wilson. Wilson may of had better numbers (idr) but Wilson had a much more complete team around him imho.
I'm extremely interested in what we have brewing.
I said it before, I think in 2-3 years we could have a record number at the combine. From all over, almost every position. This year should be fun, but the following is a statement year. We have a excellent opportunity at the West and possibly the conference this year, but idk if we can get enough growth in every position to go much past that. The following year??? Should be interesting for sure.

Iowa's elite players are testing out slower than advertised...glad I was sitting down when I read the numbers...stunning...

Their 40 times have been very average. Their agility drills have been pretty good. The Iowa pro day and teams needs and evaluations will be what I think will help/hurt their stock. It will be interesting to see what post-combine mock drafts will say about the Iowa guys.

Its my opinion really only the elite of the elite athletes benefit from the combine in terms of their performance. For most teams to get the guys that are going to be great value after round 1 I feel there is more importance in the interview process and then the individual pro days. Now if you have a bad showing at both that is tough but if you are able to bounce back at a pro day it isn't a big deal on the measurables if your combine showing was poor.

For most guys to succeed in the league a lot depends on what system they are a good fit in and for the rookies and can they stay healthy in camp. There are a lot of talented guys that get behind in camp because they get banged up. Come September I feel there will be quite a few new hawks that have a a spot on rosters.

How about Dion Lewis (Patriots)? 5 foot 8, 195 pounds. This year, 896 yards rushing (5.0 yds/carry) to be the Patriots leading rusher. 32 receptions as well. Drafted in the 5th round by the Eagles in 2011. Traded to the Browns. Cut by the Browns. Cut by the Colts. Patriots picked him up off the scrap heap and made something out of him.
Didn't say AW can't have a career in the NFL. Was just trying to point out that comparing players playing now to players 20 years ago doesn't really equate to anything.
