Combine Results

It seems like results are still rolling in for the offensive guys, but this is what nfl.com has posted so far:

Daniels posted 21 reps in the bench press, Welsh did 20. That put them at 23rd and 24th out of the 36 OL who have completed that test thus far. Iowa guys have historically not fared especially well in the bench press. According to this Todd McShay piece, this is approaching red-flag territory for interior OL, but hopefully the tape on these guys will be enough to carry them through.

Welsh had a 5.43 40yd, 32nd out of 38 OL that tested. That test is not especially important for OL, but that certainly does not help him at all. Daniels either did not run, or his results have not been posted yet.

Daniels had 11th best broad jump out of 38 at 108". According to the McShay piece, that is outstanding for interior OL. Welsh was at 103", which is above average (historical data), and put him at 24th out of 38.

Wadley ran a 4.54 40yd, placing him 11th out of the 26 that ran. In terms of tiers, there were 2 blazers (Hines from NC St at 4.38 and Barkley from PSU at 4.40), 2 others at 4.46, and then 7 clustered between 4.49-4.54.

Wadley was 3rd worst in bench (11 reps). 22nd out of 28 in vert (32.0", below average historically). He doesn't have any results posted for broad jump or 20yd shuttle.

I am guessing Wadley was hoping for a better showing, but hopefully his tape gets him drafted. Then again, LeShun Daniels had some pretty solid senior tape and better testing numbers (his numbers from pro day below), and he still went the free-agent route. Wadley brings some versatility in the receiving and return game that should help him out.

LeShun's numbers from pro-day last year (easier to perform at pro day vs. combine):
5' 10-7/8", 222 lbs.
4.50 forty (1.49 10-yd)
4.17 shuttle
6.94 3-cone
36" vertical
9'6" broad jump
21 bench reps

Scouts are raving about Daniels. Here's an article with a lot of comments from today: Link

Also, Saquon Barkley measured 6'0" 233 lbs. He ran a 4.40 40 yard dash, bench pressed 225 lbs 29 times, and had a 41" vertical.

I would never have guessed Daniels would have the faster 40 time and higher vertical leap.

That doesn't surprise me, we saw Daniel's break away speed when he got in the open. His senior year, Daniels had 6 runs of 30+, and 3 runs of 50+. Wadley had 4 runs of 30+, and 3 runs of 50+. Daniels uncorked a 30+ yarder once every 34 carries, and Wadley once every 36.5 carries. Daniels actually was unlucky enough to have 2 long TD runs called back (63 yards and 75 yards), otherwise he would've been averaging a 30+ yard carry once every 25 carries.

While their speed is similar, Wadley's elusiveness is otherworldly, and he is better as a receiver.

Yeesh. Is that your preferred target for your Browns?

Only if they can get him at 4. Gotta pick a QB. Don't really have a favorite QB right now. Have ones I don't like, though. If Barkley's the best RB of all time (he's not, but let's just say), what will he do for them, win 5-6 a year? They need a qb...period. Barkley is pretty damn tempting, though, but not at 1.

They have picks at 1 and 4 they will get a quarterback.

I’d be interested in Wadley’s 10 yard split time and where that ranks in comparison to other RBs. That shows true acceleration and is IMO the most important mark for RBs and WRs

Not sure why they don't report that, I saw Barkley's listed elsewhere.

I wish they could measure the distance after the hesitation head fake, especially those next two change of direction steps...Akrum Wadley has few equals there. Top end speed is good...but living in the move setup and accelerating out of it...that's world class. He would be an impossible cover by a linebacker if isolated in the passing game...it just won't happen.

Wadley's vision and instincts are otherworldly. His timing on his cuts, is a thing of beauty. He made a lot of good defenders look ordinary.

They were saying on the NFL Network earlier today that tape is 90% of a teams' analysis of a player and the combine and other workouts are 10%. If that's the case, he should be fine.

If I remember correctly Christian McCaffrey numbers weren’t off the charts. I believe he ran a 4.5 forty as well. I don’t think AW is quite on that level, but I still think he will end up going in the 4th or 5th round.

McCaffrey had pretty good numbers when he made Iowa look like a team of rodeo clowns in the bowl game...
