Clowns in the Big 10

Let's say they had Iowa's schedule.

vs PSU
@ Michigan
vs Wisconsin
vs Mich st.
@ indiana
@ northwestern
vs OSU
@ minny

PSU, @ Michigan, Wisconsin, and OSU are all guaranteed loses IMO

@ Northwestern and vs MSU are most likely losses.

They would be the dog in every game.

The best they could do would be 4-4 which would put them in the 6-8 range and I feel like that's being pretty generous.
 
Let's look at the schedules of Indiana and Northwestern respectively. I used these two because ISU's historic program record is about the same as both mentioned.

IU's schedule is: MI, @OSU, @Ill, NW, IA, @WI, PSU, @PU. ISU would an underdog in every game. The best shot at a win would be Illinois, but it is a road game.

NW's schedule is: @Mn, Purdue, MSU, @IU, @PSU, IA, Ill, @WI. ISU would have a chance at going 2 and 6 with games against Illinois and Indiana.

Northwestern sure has a favorable schedule.

I had someone tell me the other day that soccer was going to overtake football as America’s favorite sport in the next 5 years. This isn’t quite that ridiculous, but it’s getting close.
 
Wow, you can tell its the middle of July. When this board starts talking about a fake scenario that ISU fans are talking about its officially the doldrums of summer
 
Why are we pulling material from CF to discuss over here? First off, they aren't in the B10, and NEVER will be, so it's like beating a dead horse, next, if they want to play in fantasy land good for them, but I prefer to play in reality, and finally everytime one of these threads gets started, we just play into their whole reasoning "Iowa fans are obsessed with Iowa State" garbage.

Is losing players off of a bad defense really a big deal? I'm not sure PSU would have the ability to exploit that, especially early in the year.

Without looking when I W/L'ed the hypothetical schedule I had them going 3-5 in the Big 10 with wins over Illinois and Minnesota. Sure they could lose to PSU but I also had them losing to Northwestern which they could win. Personally I think Northwestern will finish with a better record than PSU.

I don't think ISU would beat PSU. And I think they'd finish near the bottom of the Big 10 like they could the Big 12 this year. BUT, it is not THAT unreasonable a prediction. ISU was decent last year as big overachievers. They beat Minnesota in a bowl game. It is not out of the realm of posibility that ISU improves from last year to this year. Losing their defensive starters is not a bad thing for them. They have a good coach. PSU loses a lot this year and it isn't unreasonable to conceive them falling back to the middle-of-the-pack status they enjoyed for a while recently. I would not bet on ISU beating PSU, but it's a heck of a lot more likely than what you predict. ISU fans have a right to be optimistic, too. Finishing near the top of the Big 10 is nutso, but finishing ahead of a few teams and beating PSU is not 100% over-the-top.
 
Just because ISU is losing bad players on defense doesn't make their defense better. You realize the guys they had on the bench were worse than the guys that played. Unless they have some freshman coming in that will make an impact or players returning from injury you can expect more of the same IMO.

Depends on how you define it. I'm a big soccer enthusiast but really don't ever see the U.S. brand overtaking NFL, NCAA and high school soccer popularity, viewership, or revenues combined, at least in my lifetime. If you add Mexico and Latin America for a broader "Americas," then perhaps.

Interestingly, lacrosse is on course to overtake soccer as the youth sport with highest level of participation in the U.S. Will be interesting to see how that impacts a variety of issues, including use of public facilities, construction of new athletic fields specifically for the sport, equal access for boys and girls to what until now has been largely a boys' sport, access to lower income groups considering the amount of equipment (masks, helmets, sticks, padding, etc.) the sport requires, coverage by local media.

Any sport where you can play for two hours and have no score... isn't going to take over America any time soon.
