Clowns in the Big 10

Alanis Morissette called and wishes she had access to your quote as an example of real irony.

I don't think ISU would beat PSU. And I think they'd finish near the bottom of the Big 10 like they could the Big 12 this year. BUT, it is not THAT unreasonable a prediction. ISU was decent last year as big overachievers. They beat Minnesota in a bowl game. It is not out of the realm of posibility that ISU improves from last year to this year. Losing their defensive starters is not a bad thing for them. They have a good coach. PSU loses a lot this year and it isn't unreasonable to conceive them falling back to the middle-of-the-pack status they enjoyed for a while recently. I would not bet on ISU beating PSU, but it's a heck of a lot more likely than what you predict. ISU fans have a right to be optimistic, too. Finishing near the top of the Big 10 is nutso, but finishing ahead of a few teams and beating PSU is not 100% over-the-top.

And Jack Nicholson called and wished he had access to your quote when he starred in 1 Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest.

ISU was decent last year? Their signature win came against a Nebraska team that turned the ball over 7 times, and they only won by 2 points. Their other victories came against the likes of North Dakota State, Kent State, Army, Baylor etc. They beat a hapless Minnesota team in a bowl game that nobody saw, all while avoiding the likes of Texas and Oklahoma. They won't be so lucky this year, as they pick them back up on their schedule and will have to deal with them for the rest of the time the Big 12-2 exists.

wasn't it 8 turnovers?

of course, clownfan will turn this around to the iowa game - i.e. the only reason the clowns lost was all the turnovers.

OK, so you stick with your thought that Penn State's walkons would beat Iowa State by 4 touchdowns while you call me cuckoo for saying Iowa State was decent when they finished 7-6 and won a bowl game. Perfectly logical.

I can't believe you made me defend ISU. I feel dirty. But at least I am not silly.

Last year Iowa State was lucky to beat a very average Minnesota team that finished 3-5 in the Big Ten.

If Iowa State played in the Big Ten, I believe that they would win 2 to 3 conference games this year. Combine that with 2 or 3 nonconference wins and you get a record somewhere between 4-8 and 6-6 (which is about where I believe they will finish this year).

They are not a strong program and there is not a lot of talent on their sideline. Having said that, they always play Iowa tough and they will be a very tough out for Iowa. Iowa can be upset by them if we don't play hard and take them seriously

what do you mean? ISU has overall better team speed than does Iowa, and their physicality reminds of a mid-tier SEC team ala Arkansas or South Carolina......

Yes, of course, you are right.

I'm stunned that the Big Ten did not pick Iowa State over Nebraska for the Big Ten's 12th member.

Any sport where you can play for two hours and have no score... isn't going to take over America any time soon.
The lack of scoring drives me crazy, but I think all of the flopping around and pretending to be hurt is just as annoying. I tried to watch a little World Cup Soccer, and some guy fell down, had to be carried off by stretcher, and then was back in the game less than a minute later. I shut it off and never watched again.

The thread title tells me all I need to know about the posters this will attract. Is ISU a dominant team? By no means, but they are better than the media represents.

As an ISU grad, I have always wanted our programs to be successful, and I have always enjoyed Iowa being successful as well, because they bring along lesser talent and through good coaching beat more respected and historic programs. I cheer for Iowa every game they are not playing ISU. But the cyclone bashing does seem to be popular with many hawk fans, who I suspect their only affiliation with the university is that they grew up in Iowa. Once the mud slinging starts there is not one fan taking moral high ground it seems.

As for our performance in the Big 10, it is hard to say. The leagues(Big 12 and 10) are built so differently, that depending on what you prefer(speed and O or defense and size) their will be a thousand opinions on it. I am more optimistic than 3 wins. Why? Not because ISU is super talented or track fast on the field, but because I believe that Rhoads has assembled one of the best small program coaching staffs in the country, and that they can find ways to win a few games. We had terrible personnel last year, and no experience in the system, as well as a weak D. We probably shouldn't have won 3 games, but we won 7, and that is what a good staff can do.

I think you mean, that is what a weak schedule can do. ISU won't be so lucky this year. They have to play the big boys. Reality will hit home this year and your Rhoads to nowhere will discover that beating the likes of North Dakota State, Kent State, Army, Baylor etc. to pad your win record, will not help when playing Utah, Texas, or Oklahoma. It certainly didn't help you against Iowa last year. Oh and I'm willing to bet the Huskers make up for their 7 turnovers and wopping 2 point loss by puttting a 28 point beatdown on the clowns this year as well. If you guys get 4 wins this year you should buy a lottery ticket! But yeah, you just keep telling yourself what a great coaching staff you have, and when your singing "I'll be home for Christmas" during bowl week you can tell us about how good you're going to be next year.

What a great thread, all the clown fans are picking themselves to roll over the Big Ten and saying how much it sucks, one even called it the "Big Tenevision",

WHAT! So now the fact that the Big Ten makes money and is on TV is a point of ridicule for the Big 10?? WTF are they smoking over there?

Also, they deride the Big 10 then all have wet dreams about joining it, its just hilarious. A few months ago they were begging to get an invite to avoid being a MAC team.

ISU doesn't belong in any of the Big 6, they are far and away the weakest BCS division school by a large margain thanks to their combination of awful football and low academic standing.

Clowns spend so much time in fantasy...clearly to avoid reality.

I am not a fan of either team, my opinion is unbiased. But for a Hawkeye fan to say that anyone is devoid of reality when it comes to talking about football is absolutely hilarious.

To be honest, no one outside of the Big 10 has much respect for the league, probably because the teams are hilariously bad.

Need some proof? Sure, why not.

Bowl Records over the last decade:

Big 12 - 37-36 - 2 BCS Championships
Big 10 - 32-41 - 1 BCS Championship

The Big 10 currently has the worst bowl victory percentage of any BCS conference. This is why no one respects the Big 10, it's a weak conference.

Thats weird, the last two posts were the written equivalent of the Charlie Brown teacher's voice and it smells like troll droppings now.

Reality sucks, I understand. Here, you want some more?

Kirk Ferentz is 5-6 against Iowa State. And you wonder why they sit up in LAmes laughing their ***** off at the blindly optimistic Hawkeye fanbase.

You want some more reality? 4 of the 5 Iowa losses came when the program was down.

Want to hear some more? 4 times Kirk Ferentz has had Iowa finish a season with a higher ranking tham ISU has ever had at any point in any season.

First off, it's 6 losses. Second, I wasn't aware that results didn't count because it wasn't a good year.

no, its not. you've proven that numerous times
