Clayborn earns praise from Tampa coaches

Saying the Rose Bowl is overrated is just flat out stupid.

The Rose Bowl is one of the toughest tickets in football year in and year out. The Orange Bowl has to close off sections, because they can't sell all their tickets.

The Orange Bowl is a game. The Rose Bowl is an institution, with one of the world's most famous pageants, marked by the world famous parade.

Have each of the major bowls lost clout? Absolutely. When they let the crappy Fiesta strong arm them into the BCS, they all dropped down a notch. That being said, there is still a pecking order at that second notch and the Rose is a cut above the rest.

It's still cooler, but when it comes down to it, it means no more than any of the other BCS games. Throwing out "Benn's Rose Bowl appearances:1, Clayborn: 0" as some sort of thing for Benn to hold over Clayborn is what's stupid. The Rose Bowl is not so much better that an Orange Bowl win is lower than leaving the Rose Bowl with your tail so far between your legs you could tickle your nose.

Guys, please stop responding to me. I am remembering why I bought Northwestern tickets. They aren't charging me Cadillac prices for a Chevy Cavalier. I never bought a Cadillac Cimmaron. They are charging me Hyundai prices for Honda quality.

Asking for a guy who pulls north of $3 mil a year for just a single Rose Bowl or win in C-bus must mean I'm setting my expectations too high.

Hmmmm... since NW doesn't have the track record of filling a stadium (half the size - btw) as Iowa does, it might stand the reason. For that matter, since you're so high on the Cats, why don't you just join the other 2 Cat fans and remove your association from this board? You may not be paying Caddy prices, but I'd be willing to bet the next 10 years on the Cat bandwagon will ride ride like the Cavalier you're so fond of...:D

Downers Grove > Hampton > Mason City > Marshalltown > Fort Dodge > Clinton > Fort Madison > Ottumwa > Urbandale > Evanston > ANYWHERE in North Carolina

RB = OB = FB = SB < BCS championship game

BTW....glad to see Clayborn being praised. But, makes you wonder about all that talent last year and the collapse(s)....just sayn.

Conservative offensive scheme didn't give the D enough recovery time.

Downers Grove sucks. Hampton blows.

RB > OB > FB = SB < BCS title game

Just because your socialist hero Orrin Hatch has threatened all kinds of antitrust sanctions and they made the BCS payouts equal does not mean the games are equal. Do you really want to go to Prolizona for a bowl game? I don't, unless it's the title game. Same with the Sugar Bowl. New Orleans is fine for that little party they have, but the other 50 weeks a year, it is still in Weeziana. No thanks. And the OB looked like Carver in the Lickliter era with all the tarped over seats when we played Georgia Tech.

You guys are starting to sound like all the Alford backers who brag about his success in the Big Ten Tournament. Sure, you can talk about all the hardware we have for second place, or third place, or fifth place in the conference, but the fact is, we haven't gotten the big prize, the trip to Pasadena, in a LONG time and no matter how you try to spin it by blaming the BCS or what not, I sure haven't seen it hurting the good programs' ability to go to Pasadena (e.g., Michigan, OSU, Purdue, PSU, Illinois, Wisconsin, Northwestern have all been there more recently than us). I'd like to see some return on that $3+ million a year flowing out the door.

Had a lot more to do with inexperienced linebackers... the fall began after LB injuries from the Wisconsin game forced Iowa to use Morris and others to fill the gaps. A DL can only do show much if the backers aren't making good reads and filling the holes and stopping the dink passes.

That's true, the LB position was depleted. There also too many 3 and outs in key situations down the stretch.

Sorry to disappoint anyone in this thread, but I'm one of the millions who would rather win a national championship against a crappy second tier ACC team (or anyone else) then win the Rose Bowl against a a Pac 12 powerhouse. Nothing against the Rose Bowl and OK4Prez's argument, but I happen to be one of the fans that goes into each season thinking National Championship, not rose bowl. And nothing against how prestigious the Rose Bowl is, but if given the opportunity I'd rather see a national championship in the next 10 years then a Rose Bowl appearance, win or lose. Sorry to disappoint anyone, but that's just me.

Since OK4P has never attended a bowl game in person...his opinion just doesn't count. :)
