Clayborn earns praise from Tampa coaches

Sheer domination? That game was in doubt well into the 4th quarter. My guess is we would have gotten housed by Oregon if we went to the Rose Bowl after the 2009 season. They played that dink and dunk offense, no huddle style and it would have made our defense look absolutely foolish. But I would take getting housed and going to Pasadena to play the PAC 10 champion in the Rose Bowl the way God intended over playing an overrated ACC team in some marginal BCS game with thousands of empty seats.

Georgia Tech: 155 yards of total offense. Oregon puts that much up in one quarter. I'd say that qualifies as domination. An 11-2 season, with an Orange Bowl victory, is better than a 9-4 season capped by an EMBARRASSING Rose Bowl loss.

Rose Bowl is overrated in this day and age. A relic of an age long gone.
Going to BCS games is what it's about.
And soon, getting into the playoffs will be the bar to aim for.

BTR's fixation on the Rose Bowl is like pining after a high school cheerleader for 20 years ago. After you finally get them into the sack, it's "meh"....not as good as advertised.

No doubt about playing in the Rose Bowl would be something Iowa fans would prefer to playing in the Orange Bowl.

It's quite easy to say that the Illini would have beaten GT given that they got the first choice of bowl games in the Big 10 and didn't play GT. But speaking of dink and dunk offenses, we beat Mizzou this last year who is just that. The transitive property has never been accepted in football (you beat us the year before, so you would beat GT). Accept the defeat like we did against USC and accept the win by Iowa against a BCS team in GT. And accept the fact the Illini lost in bad fashion in the Rose Bowl. Or don't. It makes this thread keep going.

What is NW? Northwestern University is "NU."

I get it that you guys don't expect excellence, but I will keep working on you and you'll come around.

NW stands for Neutered Wildcats, which is what the NU football team will become on October 15th. That's emasculated/altered male/former tom/kittycats. BOOK IT! ! !

Hence your delusion.

The Rose Bowl is no longer more important. The Rose Bowl will now NEVER have any relevance as to who the national champion is, do you understand that? Being the "Granddaddy" means nothing anymore.

The Rose Bowl is not the main bowl anymore the BCS Title game is, after that, it dosen't matter, its all for second place.

Your ideas are based on criteria of 20 years ago that have long since become outdated.

Interesting. I could have sworn USC won an AP national title after getting shut out of the BCS title game and beating Michigan in the Rose Bowl. I am not asking for Iowa go to a BCS title game because I know that is simply never going to happen. But the Rose Bowl is a far superior game to the Orange Bowl and I find it troubling that so many Hawk fans are so content with a consolation prize. My buddy from Wisconsin who has traveled out to 2 Rose Bowls sure enjoyed the hell out of it (other than the TCU thrashing) and my buddy who is a huge Illini fan enjoyed the hell out of it, too. Heck, I don't even expect the Hawks to win the Rose Bowl in my lifetime, that would be like asking a Cub fan if they expect a World Series in their lifetime, I just want to go.

Yeah, sure it is. No Big Ten fan goes into the season hoping for a Rose Bowl. I've never seen fans of opposing teams show up at Kinnick with roses (only to leave disappointed). The Rose Bowl storyline is never mentioned in big games. Announcers never said the road to the Rose Bowl went through Kinnick in 2010 (which it did bince sparty got punked there whilst OSU and Wisky took care of business). Yep, the Rose Bowl is overrated. Capital One is way better.

I'm not comparing an 11-2 season to a 9-4 season. I'm comparing Iowa's 2009 Orange Bowl to a hypothetical 2009 Rose Bowl. Either would have resulted in an 11-2 season (as we would have needed to win in C-bus (which Ferentz has never done) and we prolly would have gotten waxed by Oregon for 11-2.

Wow, ONE instance in the past 13 years. That's quite a track record .

And people DIDN'T enjoy their trips to Miami? Using that as your standard is pretty pathetic. Who in the Midwest DOESN'T enjoy a trip to Miami/L.A. in JANUARY?

The Rose Bowl no longer carries the kind of weight that it used to. It is on the same level as the other three BCS bowls, which is below the national championship game. Winning the Rose Bowl would not be as big as winning the national championship game. 2003 was an exception to that, as USC should have been in the NCG.

Oh, and one more thing seff, you just got yourself uninvited from my Rose Bowl tailgate. You can go watch Weak Forest and Cincinnati in the Orange Bowl and tell me how awesome the Orange Bowl is.

No guy, it really isn't on the same level. Ask Illini fans whether they liked their Sugar Bowl or Rose Bowl more. Ask OSU fans if they liked the Fiesta Bowl or Rose Bowl more. The Rose Bowl is still the best bowl out there.

Just because Big Ten fans, on the average, hold the Rose Bowl above all others, does NOT make it a better bowl. I'm sure that SEC fans might consider the Sugar Bowl better than the Rose Bowl, because the Sugar Bowl was the SEC's. Same goes for ACC fans and the Orange Bowl, etc. But the Big Ten is also laughed at for being too nostalgic, too entrenched in the "good ole days".

But the Rose Bowl is (objectively) on the same level as the Orange Bowl, ESPECIALLY in this day and age.

Yeah, sure it is. 1. No Big Ten fan goes into the season hoping for a Rose Bowl. 2. I've never seen fans of opposing teams show up at Kinnick with roses (only to leave disappointed). 3. The Rose Bowl storyline is never mentioned in big games. 4. Announcers never said the road to the Rose Bowl went through Kinnick in 2010 (which it did bince sparty got punked there whilst OSU and Wisky took care of business). Yep, the Rose Bowl is overrated. Capital One is way better.

1. In-the-know, modern-thinking Big-10 fans should go into each and every season hoping for a BCS bowl. Rose Bowl is overrated.

2. If you're talking about Wisconsin, that's because we hosed them out of a BCS bowl....just happened to be the Rose Bowl. Rose bowl is overrated.

3. Sure it is...by the talking heads who are scripted to keep regurgitating said nonsense to back Delaney and his anti-playoff cronies. Rose Bowl is overrated.

4. Same as #3. Rose Bowl is overrated.

5. I never said Rose Bowl < Cap-1. Don't be a moron. I said RB = OB = SB = FB. Rose Bowl is overrated.

Saying the Rose Bowl is overrated is just flat out stupid.

The Rose Bowl is one of the toughest tickets in football year in and year out. The Orange Bowl has to close off sections, because they can't sell all their tickets.

The Orange Bowl is a game. The Rose Bowl is an institution, with one of the world's most famous pageants, marked by the world famous parade.

Have each of the major bowls lost clout? Absolutely. When they let the crappy Fiesta strong arm them into the BCS, they all dropped down a notch. That being said, there is still a pecking order at that second notch and the Rose is a cut above the rest.
