CJF Recruiting

If he keeps playing @ the same high level...absolutely. He has been an upgrade from Isaiah Moss and definitely a welcomed addition!

Yes. Cudos to Fran, who has to keep finding diamonds in the rough, as always miss out on the ‘big fish’. Sounds a lot like KF!

Baer, I wish he was on this team. From walk on to major contributor off the bench he was a pleasant surprise.
Agree, good comparison. One of my favorites.

Fredrick is such a pleasant surprise with his shooting, game understanding, and tenacity. I think it more pleasant given the many examples of hearing about "wow, wait till this guy plays in games, he is the best shooter in practice" and then is run of the mill in action.

For being inexperienced, he is really impressive. Lots of games to go, fun to watch. Get the ball to the shooters!

"Diamond in the rough." Maybe when he committed, and that's only a maybe. But he was literally the Gatorade Player of the year in Kentucky. He grew up around really high level basketball and his incredible shooting accuracy isn't unprecedented within his family. His uncle shot a career average of 49% from 3 while playing for some solid Notre Dame teams that featured Fran as an assistant coach. I'm willing to bet Fran had some idea what he was getting and Xavier, Indiana, Butler, Penn State, Nebraska, Michigan etc. all had an idea too.

Fran simply won the recruiting battle before it even started. Not completely dissimilar to what happens at the blue bloods with Krzyzewski, Tom Izzo, Roy Williams, and Bill Self.

He is impressive. Watching a game...I want him to shoot every time he touches the ball!

Hopefully he can be a "name shooter" in college BB for many years.

A "baby Kyle Korver" perhaps!

Fredrick is shooting over 50% from the 3 point stripe, which is unheard of for a freshman. Am I crazy to think that he could become a 3 point specialist at the next level?

Kyle Corver shot 43% from 3 his freshman year at Creighton and 45% for his career there. He's now in his 17th year in the NBA.

Although it’s only a two man class, I’d have to think Wieskamp and Fredrick is arguably Fran’s best recruiting class. At least in the conversation.

Other notables:

-Garza, CMac, Nunge
-Cook, Jbo, Kriener, Pemsl
-White, Olaseni, Oglesby
-Gesell, Woodbury, Clemmons

100% agree. I was expecting another Ogelsby as we've all heard Fran hype guys before so I had my expectations low. What is great is he has a knack for not only hitting shots but also key shots at big moments and also consistency. I would agree he is an upgrade over Moss. He will end up being a fantastic 4 year player at Iowa who will be a fan favorite if he can stay healthy.

My worry is Korver is 4 inches taller than Fredrick. Can Fredrick be effective at 6-3? But, yeah, these are the type of shooting percentages you see in college to be a 3 point specialist in the NBA. IIRC the 3 point line was closer when Korver was at Creighton, Fredrick is shooting over 50% from a line that's close to the NBA's range.

Anyone who is mobile and can shoot 50% from three point range is a potential NBA player. The game has changed.

I hope he makes it big in the NBA, but not for four years.

I don't think so. He has nearly everything you'd want including the ball handling and defense. And he's just a freshman. The only thing he hasn't shown is the completely bonkers range of someone like JBo who is in range when he steps across half court or the handle that consistently puts people on their butts. If he starts doing those things, I don't think he'll be around all 4 years.

I'm definitely pleasantly surprised. I have to admit that on paper, without seeing CJF play and just going by his "profile", I expected he would be another Oglesby or Ellingson type. The results have clearly been far better than that. Not just a "he shoots it well in practice!" kind of guy, but does it when it counts.

Nice find by Fran!
