CJF Recruiting

I don't think so. He has nearly everything you'd want including the ball handling and defense. And he's just a freshman. The only thing he hasn't shown is the completely bonkers range of someone like JBo who is in range when he steps across half court or the handle that consistently puts people on their butts. If he starts doing those things, I don't think he'll be around all 4 years.

I disagree, these 3 point specialists are not 1st round picks and one of the reasons he liked Iowa was for their business and sports management program. I think he will be a 4 year player (technically 5 since he red-shirted).

I'm definitely pleasantly surprised. I have to admit that on paper, without seeing CJF play and just going by his "profile", I expected he would be another Oglesby or Ellingson type. The results have clearly been far better than that. Not just a "he shoots it well in practice!" kind of guy, but does it when it counts.

Nice find by Fran!
After practicing with CJF for a year, It was a nice move by Moss, to leave! Win/Win

He would be a nice fit with The Greek Freak...float outside, fire away.

He was the best player KY had to offer. That state is basketball crazy and he was able to score at will almost. He was kinda KYs version of what JW was to Iowa. He's kinda answered what most our questions about him in the sense that a lot of us were wondering if he'd be a Josh Oglesby/or Ellingson 3.0 kinda deal. But he's clearly a better overall player and so far an even better shooter then they were. And he's barely halfway through his first year of playing. Kid has a great future ahead of him as a Hawkeye

One thing I didnt see mentioned was his cutting ability and finishing at the hoop. Maybe that's a compliment to the players that get him the ball on those back cuts but I dont remember another guard as good at that as CJ has been

He finishes so easy too. He's missed a couple now, but for the most part, its backboard, bottom of the net when he gets close.

True, but I think they already have a CJF in Donte DiVincenzo. Big East 6th man of year in his 3rd year, Final 4 most outstanding player for National Champs Villanova (23 ppg in Final 4, 31 in championship game). Very similar size to CJF (6' 4", 203 lbs).

Picked 17th by Bucks, starting to find his role. Shot 40% from 3 in his final season of college; only 33% this year for the Bucks (and much worse last year), but he is coming on.

Whats crazy is this is only his first year of playing at this level, and hes basically option #3 on offense most nights.

Give him a couple more years to add moves, add a shot fake, add a quicker release, refine his dribble/drive. Yikes.

People have been saying Fran is doing his best coaching job this year. It's easy when you have a guy playing like an All American. In '15, Uthoff played like an All American for 2/3 of the season and fot us up to 3rd in the ranking. After that he dropped off and played closer to a borderline 1st/2nd team all conference player. Pretty good, but a pretty big drop off. If he would have kept his pace, Fran would have had his best coaching year winning us a Big 10 Title. It's easy when players play good.

Freddy was a solid steal as a three-star player

Right now he is one of the top 100 players from that class

No doubt

And he is attracting a ton of attention, but still excels

Freddy and Joe on the outside and LUKA in the paint and outside are a serious problem for every team left on our schedule

Everyone else who sees time on the court is contributing Large

Who has been more of a "pleasant surprise" than Frederick in Iowa BB history?

I think CJ is the biggest surprise for his position. Fran has not done great getting diamonds in the rough at the 1 &2.

Aaraon white, Gabe olaseni, braer, and basabe all out performaned their projected talent level.

Marble and Jok both did really well. Jok is kinda a unique situation because of his injuries.

From looking at his HS pic he sure filled out nicely during his RS year. Great decision. Turned himself into one of the best first year players I have seen in a Hawkeye uniform. Smart, smart player. Also taking over nicely JBO's cold blooded shooting role. Good to know that is covered for the foreseeable future.

I agree. But there was actual hype for these players. With one being a legacy recruit and the other being an in state recruit, they weren't really suprises even if they did exceed expectations.

I agree, Jok, etc. had better pedigree than CJF. Part of the surprise surrounding CJ is the series of "hyperbole practice shooters" who were advertised as future sharpshooters who would lift the team, only to see them be, less than advertised. CJ has changed the narrative, in a very impressive way.

I would include JBo. Wisky didn't want him Iowa offered fairly late and not many others were in on him...
