Everyone loves the backup QB... Without seeing how they've practiced the last couple years who knows if Beathard is better or worse. He's got the way better arm we know that. I'd like to see a system where there are more shots down field. More deep in routes. Use the middle of the field. They have 3 good TEs a couple with speed and I only remember one pass up the seam. They have 3 WRs with better then good speed. (Powell Smith Willies) One of them should be on the field all the time if not some combination of them. They can stretch the field as targets not just running off coverage for a 5 yard hitch for someone else. Vandeberg needs to not see the field so much on O. They are using KMM correctly but that's about it. Seeing Powell and Willies ride the bench and hardly work up a sweat blows my mind. To be fair to Rudock I don't know if he's the right guy I just know this isn't the right O for this group. (Or just about any group)

Here is the thing, if you watch, we do run guys down the field, but Jake looks for a half second and checks down. There are guys getting open down the field! Jake doesn't have the confidence or maybe even the ability to get it to them on a consistent basis. Opposing coaches know this. So until we give someone else a shot, we are screwed.

This, Jake is starting to skip the primary receivers down field and immediately dumping it to the check down. It is some sort of confidence thing....Ever since GD came in the QB's have played timid and do not throw the ball down field. JVB regressed after GD came in and jake is beginnnig to do the same. They start to feel pressure coming even when there is nobody near by and stop looking down field. If the problem isn't fixed it will only get worse.

CJ over Captain Checkdown.

that one has already been taken, sorry.....:)

I've defended Jake up until this point.

But now something has to change and neither Ferentz or Davis are going anywhere so the only immediate change I can see that we make is to give CJ his shot.

I was in the Jake camp until Saturday. I don't think he's getting the job done even though the OC isn't doing him any favors.

Ferentz isn't going to pull Jake though unless he's injured so my two cents are pointless.

If the QB isn't getting the job done and the backup knows the plays then I say give him a try.Anything will be better than what we're watching. Offensive coordinator needs to change his ways and open things up.

Do we stay with what we've been doing, and hope Jake gets more confident in looking down field, or is it time to get give CJ a shot? I am team CJ right now. This just isn't working so far this year.

I really don't care. I want whoever gets it done.

That said, I really would like to see a LOT more of CJ, even if only to make the opponent defenses HAVE to "think" a little more.

Jake stinks at this level. CJ might be terrific, would love to see him get a chance. Frankly, won't watch Hawks anemic O while Ruddock at QB. Predictable boring and unimaginative.

Jake wasn't THE problem but he was a problem and right now he's the easiest problem to fix. If we had a run game things might be different but we don't. Jake's strength is game management and move the chains which obviously isn't working. We have wide open guys downfield and we need someone that can get them the ball.

If Beathard isn't that guy, then we don't have one and we go back to Rudock. Maybe Rudock will play better afterward knowing that he's the guy no matter what because Beathard had his shot and it didn't work.

Rudock might very well be the better qb. But for this particular offense, given our strengths and weaknesses, he might not be.

I agree, I believe Jake avoids the deep ball and middle of the field cause he's not good at it. Put CJ in there with the exact same offense game plan we throw 10 times over 20 yards.

Just remembered that Vandenberg threw 7 td’s in 2012 and took every single snap. There came a point where Ferentz preferred losing over the possibility of a backup proving critics right.

This is true, but what's different is I truly don't know that any backup could have saved us that year. There was always some hope that JVB could grasp the new system. He never did, and the system obviously isn't good anyway. CJB has more talent than Jake. He may not run the system as well as Jake, but who cares. If checking down 25 times a day is good, than I want to be bad. The energy was totally different when CJ was in the game. The players want it, the fans want it, heck even GD probably wants it. It's time for KF to give in to his ego and give the kid a shot. What's the worst that could happen? We only score 17 points against a bad defense?

I'm ready for CJ. I think it could be a young Brett Favre situation where you get some wow plays with him but also see him make some dumb mistakes (not that he's going to be as good as #4 was). Man though, wouldn't you rather see that then seeing us lose by a slow, check down Chinese water torture?

I'm not going to be that guy saying our QB camp isn't a problem at this point and I've made it clear what my thoughts are on benching JR in other posts. My concern is that if in the event that JR gets the hook and CJ comes in and isn't ready, then what?

Honest question, because in that scenario I think CJ's psyche is affected and it could destroy Jake mentally. Let's face it, we think he struggles looking down field now, what happens if to him mentally knowing that if he misses a throw he's uncomfortable making he gets yanked? What happens to the psyche of this team if KF makes the switch and CJ isn't the answer?

I get your point, but isn't the real problem that JR is checking down too quickly? I don't think a "slow, check down..." is the problem.
