Charlie Jones in the portal

It's all about getting into an offense to see more targets at WR in his last year for a chance at the NFL. He went thru spring at Iowa and figured out it wasn't going to happen here. In addition, Iowa doesn't have the history of being a pass happy offense under KF.
I dunno it feels like Jones worrying about his resume for going to the NFL is him having delusions of grandeur. I don't see anyone drafting him be it he has 25 catches for us or 55 for someone else. Guys like him aren't going to be taken much higher than 6th round if at all.

Goodson was a top 20ish RB and he wasn't taken. Is Jones a top 30-40 WR? I dunno. My guess is since he's friends with the Qb at Purdue and Tracy already being there he'll get more touches and have more fun there as much as anything. A shot at the NFL would just be the cherry on top along with NIL

Yea, but these guys have been working ALL their lives to get to this level and they do all they can to see where they can go, regardless of the odds. Look at the USFL. There are some desperate damn guys in that league holding on to a dream or they just can't let it go. I'm sure he's doing all he can to increase any draft stock he may have. He has one last year so he's gunna do all he can that gives him the best opportunity.

Well....maybe. He also may be thinking "by spending so much time with football I'm not developing as quickly as I could be on the mound." I imagine he's having a lot of different thoughts swirling in his mind these days.
I also think he may be ineligible to be drafted yet. When kids go to college don't they have to be there 3 yrs before they can go pro? Maybe they can get drafted and they just can't go yet kinda thing I can't remember how they do that these days. Either way since he's at Iowa he isn't going pro for awhile yet

He just has to not walk people and he is going to be fine as far as pitching. Especially don't walk people with a 20-30 mph wind blowing in. Heck, take your chance over plate and let your team defend. Pitching 98 mph consistently is great for strikeouts when getting it over the plate. It is also good because you can afford to catch more of the plate as you cut down on the decision time for a hitter, even though you may be throwing more over the plate. Even if you get hit a bit, hopefully shortening the decision time with just a little movement or change of speed will not allow the hitter to get good contact and maybe hit fouls, or grounders. Yes, sometimes you get barreled up and a solid hit off ya but that's just the odds happening. Over the course of a start, you should be good. He just needs a little movement and a consistent change-up. If he could drop 15-20 mph off his fastball and get across consistently, hitters would be guessing.

Had to laugh, from a Purdue message board:

So now we're kicking Iowa's ass on the field and taking their players? Good with me...

Given the Purdue QB grew up something like 8 miles from Charlie.... maybe something.

Ryan Day informed his supporters that OSU ”will need $13,000,000 a year“ for NIL.

Wow, so he's content just winning the Big Ten and has no aspirations of winning a natty during his tenure? These oil bros in Texas and Oklahoma are rolling in cash. Hell, even SMU was a title contender coming off the oil embargo in the '70's because there was so much oil money sloshing around Dallas. FFS the oil money was such an interesting story that the who shot JR episode drew 90 million viewers in 1980 when the population was way smaller than it is now!

Point is, these wildcatter oil guys do not give a single solitary F what the rules are, they have gigantic balls and when they get money it's going to the local football program. See also, T. Boone bringing Oklahoma State out of the cellar. There is no way in hell they weren't paying recruits.

$13,000,000 is going to be a drop in the bucket compared to what teams like Texas, Texas Tech and Texas A&M are going to be bringing to the table. Someone needs to pull Day aside and explain reality to him because if $13,000,000 is the number, even second tier programs like Iowa and Wisconsin might be able to sway guys if they get NIL programs up and running. I think he's just flat out wrong on what it will cost. Look at the bidding war for coaches. This NIL shit is going to be that on steroids.

So it's done and all the rumors about Purdue from the git go were right. I wonder how those got started to begin with. Was it just the obvious tie in between him and their QB and how they'd lost a WR too so it was speculated or was there more to it? Not that it matters I doubt Brohm was tampering but ya never know I guess with assistants and whatnot

Too bad Purdue sucks and has no players we want or else Kurt would raid the shit out of their roster just to stick a thumb in Brohm's eye. It's a joke of a program. I can't even remember the last we even played a competitive game with them.

Yeah they've improved their roster noticeably since Brohms been there though. That place was a dumpster fire when he took it over. They struggle on D (against everyone else) but they can move the ball and score on about anyone with a 3 star nobody Qb he's developed.

Brohm is heck of a offensive coach I think. I was surprised he didn't go home to Louisville when that job came open. He's too good for Purdue.

I think he is auditioning for an elite job, TBH. Nick is just about done, but I don't think we're gonna sustain our success in the NIL era. Maybe he will wait for the dust to settle and land somewhere like Florida or Texas with a stout NIL program. Nick coached at Michigan State to build his resume for the SEC, I think Brohm is doing the same and if he gets with the right program that can pipeline him the right players he will be formidable.
