Cartwright or Payne next year?

With Cartwright rapidly improving I'm just curious to see if people think he has surpassed Payne to be the Starting PG next year. I think he's shown enough and if the same production continues throughout the rest of the season he'll be the starter next year.

Payne back next year also creates other minutes problems. Marble seems like a good talent, but only gets 17 minutes a game and 10 of those as the backup PG. With only Cole leaving next year(and Payne back) his minutes may even diminish more. I love are depth but it hards for a guy to improve when he doesn't get on the floor. Fran's done great with improving Cartwright and Brommer. I'm kind of hoping he could do the same with Marble, but seems unlikely at least next year with his minutes looking to be marginalized.

Considering Cartwright is this team's leader and MVP, I think it's an easy answer.
Plus there's no guarantee Cully will ever be 100% again with that back.

Marble is only playing the point out of necessity. He is a wing. That's where he will play for the majority of the rest of his career.

Payne will back up Cartwright which will allow Marble to move to wing. Marbles minutes will be up next year.

I understand that, but he's only getting 7 minutes a game as the wing. 10 as backup PG this year. I'm just worried where his minutes will come from next year, I'm assuming the majority of Cole's minutes will go to McCabe/Brommer/Archie.

This is a great problem to have... Cully was our B10T MVP, although it was because he was the only Hawkeye who didn't quit playing for Lickliter. That game in Indianapolis was pathetic.
An injury free Basabe, Gatens, May, Cartwright will be starting next year. I am just wondering about the loss of Cole and the effects this will have. Wish we had Cole for just one more year. Cole has been such a great Hawkeye... and will be missed. His block on SHE-HE yesterday set the tone for the come back win.
Cully will get minutes, but will have to push Cartwright for them and make the team even better. Marble is a wild card here I agree. It all depends on how much improvements he can make in his game. The year after he will be taking Gatens spot in the starting line-up. What a great 6th Man though. He can play PG, SG, or SF!
Love what we are seeing here in less than 1 year post-Lick.

Again... we need a BIG MAN to replace the loss of Cole to graduation. The Hawkeyes are going to be a big man away from being an excellent team next year. There has to be some big fella out there who can see this opportunity? Where is the next Reggie Evans? This would be a fun team to be a part of.

He's getting low minutes at the 1 because he's not playing his primary position. Once he gets back to his natural spot, he will split time with Gatens and May.

The added depth will be a good "problem" for them to have. I'm sure Fran will give the minutes to whomever is playing the best at the moment.

Iowa needs a PG and a PF/C in this class.
With Cartwright graduating next year, they'll need another PG along w/ Cully. That is a necessity.

Cartwright will be our starting PG without a doubt. Fran has been terrific about mixing up the lineups so I wouldn't worry about Marble's minutes. We definitely could have an opportunity to sport a 6th man of the year. Remember Doug Thomas? Just great energy and plays off the bench.

Cully is not a starting big 10 PG, simple as that. He should get minutes to give BC a breather, but that is it.

Stormin, I may have missed it somewhere but I have only heard that his injury was referred to as a "sports hernia." Looking that up, it sounded like it was abdominal. Like I said, I might have missed it somewhere. Can you clear this up for me?

This is a trick question because the answer is Both. I don't care who starts, assuming Payne returns to good health, I think he will play quite a bit, often at the same time as Cartwright. Let Cartwright have the ball because he's a better creator and Payne can slide over to the combo shooting guard / second point guard slot that would been nice to have this year as Payne is a good shooter and crafty with the ball. Then when Cartwright sits, slide Payne back to the pure point guard spot.

I am thinking that at times we will see both Bryce and Cully on the floor at the same time next year. Cully's outside accuracy combined with Bryce's ability to penetrate will make a nice combination at certain times in a game.

As for which will start, Bryce will be the starter.

yes I agree they are both to good to split the minutes 25...15 or something. But then this leads to my concerned of marbles minutes, if Payne is playing the 2 then that takes away from lil roy's minutes. But I get what stormin is saying that he may not be getting the minutes he would at his natural positions, cause he's practicing as the backup PG.

Edit: Also Basabe's only getting 25 minutes this year, there is no question those have to go up.

First off I would be ok if Iowa never had another 7ft center again. The stone handed, traveling machines seen enough of that. You will see Payne and Bryce at the same time some of the time. Fran wants to go faster just can't need like three good ball handlers and Iowa will apply more pressure as well. If Iowa can add another pg would be great.
