Braylon questions if Michigan is better than Iowa

Didn’t know he was a “journalist” with the Big10.

What did the Big10 Network expect? It wasn’t like he wasn’t controversial while in the NFL.

No doubt. He wasn't exactly a choirboy. He had one great year with Cleveland and everything that followed was drama.

Mike Roehlk was the offensive lineman in 1983 who stopped an egg and a bottle of booze that were both headed directly for Hayden's skull on the Camp Randall sidelines. No joke.

Driving to Madison before 151 became four lanes one might encounter several derogatory, profanity laced banners in the small towns directed at both Iowa and Fry.

In 1985 during halftime at Camp Randall, Jim Zabel interviewed then Wisconsin Associate Athletic Director Elroy Hirsch, the former NFL receiver known as crazylegs. Hirsch immediately went into a tirade directed at Fry, calling him an arrogant jerk on the air and claiming he was going to turn him into the league office if he didn't stop running up scores.

Hey Crazylegs, that annual five mile race in Madison that bears your name really sucks. I'd rather run in a tarpit.

Not to nitpick, but it was more likely Jon Roehlk. Jon would have been a senior in 1983. Only lineman I know of that actually kicked off! He was from Durant and played HS sports against my brothers. Absolute beast in football, wrestling and baseball. Mike Roehlk is his son and is not in high school yet.

You are correct, and I do remember him kicking off. Marv Cook also kicked off at times during his Iowa career.

Many may remember Tom Nichol making some big field goals and providing all the scoring in the crucial Michigan game that year. But he wasn't the opening week placekicker. Decorah's Lon Olejnizak did the duties prior to breaking his leg in the UCLA game. Reggie Roby did some placekicing as well.

Nichol did that in 1981. 1983 we lost to Michigan on a late FG.

Roby was pretty much relegated to long FGs and kickoffs. In fact, I don't think he did any PATs OR FGs after the Nebraska--or maybe ISU--in 1981. Olecjniczak took over PATs and short FGs after the ISU game, I'm pretty sure.

I remember sitting at the Brick House in Minneapolis with the snow blowing in my face and watching the adventure of Roby kicking a field goal. He had a great leg for punting but his placekicking was average at best.

Bob Bergeron was the culprit in 1983. Tough loss.

I didn't provide a reference year in my Nichol post but yes that was 1981.

I have a birthday coming up fast. God am I getting old!

Few can do both well. You use different, opposite muscles. It's also a good way to mess up your Achilles tendon.

Two words: Pembrook Burrows
I'm not quite that old. I know the story, though.

Artis Gilmore's fourth foul was inadvertently marked by Burrow's name at the scorer's table.

When Gilmore committed another foul it was officially his fourth and he played the rest of the game.

Only it wasn't. And he shouldn't have.

But how many teams back in those days started two seven footers who looked like they could have been siblings.

I guess, during Harbaugh's tenure at Michigan his record practically mirrors Ferentz. Iowa is 29-12 while Michigan is 28-12, granted Michigan plays in the tougher division but Iowa has beaten Ohio State and reached the B10 championship game and Rose Bowl during that time.

The fusker fans are popping off about Michigan. The worst fan base in the world to be making fun of Michigan. Everything that they've been saying is actually about themselves. Fuskers you are a stupid bunch! You better hope ol Frosty pulls your ass off the bottom of the pile or you'll be taking a lot of crap from the whole B!G!
