Bowl Matchups

Holiday

Iowa vs USC

I would be okay with that.
I'm hearing projections from multiple sources that this is it.

In fact, this matchup is one of the most iron clad projections out there.

Utah is also a possibility, but I'm hearing Sun Bowl for them.

Saw some scenario that would allow music city. That’d be awesome
As long as we don't encounter the same fate as Purdue last year in that bowl game.

Iowa fans would tear up lower Broadway. Buzz Brainard's Friday happy hours would have nothing on how hawk fans can party.

And you can get there in eight hours from the Quad Cities is you keep the pedal to the metal.

A lot will depend upon whether or not an SEC team or B1G team goes to the Orange. Everything tumbles from there. I don't understand the algorithm perfectly, but, from what I understand, if the scenario plays out where a B1G team gets selected for the Orange, it eliminates the B1G from the Citrus. That scenario creates increased B1G competition down the pecking order.

Iowa is being hurt with the B1G being such a strong conference this year.

As for the Gator, the rules point to "no," but from what I've read they're not iron-clad and can be over-ruled, particularly if sticking to the rule means dropping a highly ranked team down too far.

Nearly everyone is projecting Iowa vs. USC in the Holiday, which suddenly becomes a must-win game for the program. You can't lose a bowl game to a program with a worse team who just announced that they're bringing their hated coach back for another year and thus causing a fanbase revolt. I don't care whether it says "USC" on their jerseys or not...you have to win that game.

Must-Win for the Program LMAO wow!

Hey, if they want to hear "you couldn't even beat a lesser team in shambles where everyone involved with the program hates it" for a few more years, go ahead and take this game lightly. With a month to prepare, this should be a double-digit win. USC is a tire fire.

I'm still holding out hope for the Citrus against Alabama. But a Holiday Bowl bid is sure a hell of a lot better than the friggin Quick Lane or the Pinstripe.

If they tried to send Iowa to Detroit after going 9-3, I'd expect Barta to call the B1G office and say, "If you don't give us $10M to go to that dump, we'll decline the bid and you're on your own." That said, Barta would probably just sign everyone in a one-mile radius to a contract extension.

Beating U$C in a bowl this year would be very similar to the basketball team beating UNLV in the 1988 NCAA Tournament as a sort of "revenge" from the previous year. A good win, sure, but hardly on the level of IF we would have actually beaten UNLV in 1987, or beat U$C in the 2003 Orange Bowl.

Good wins, sure, but as you note, hardly "program-defining".

No way Iowa was playing in the Quick lane or pinstripe

Most of these kids were in diapers when that game was played. From an Iowa perspective it is all about getting 10 wins and closing the season out on a high note.
