Biggest Concerns Following Saturday's Scrimmage

Since when is it a "big deal" to have concerns about a pretty weak showing at next year's team's first showcase following a dismal performance in a bowl game? To not be concerned shows that either you are not legitimate fan who cares about Hawkeye football, or that you have your head completely buried in the sand. But go on thinking that just because the guys looked like a sub par team in the spring scrimmage, they are suddenly going to get an infusion of talent over the summer and crack the pre-season top 25 rankings next year thanks to all that "development" and "Doylization" that goes on between now and September.

He is just saying not to freak out over what happened or did not happen in the scrimmage. And he is correct in saying so. Settle down, tavern hawk.

It was just a practice.

But the issue is still there. How come when you watch other spring games or events for opposing teams, they look like they have a clue.

For as long as I can remember since we ditched the game, we always look really poor, especially on offense.

Granted, Iowas defense from 2007-2010 was pretty salty and maybe helped with that.

But have we seen one scrimmage under the GD era where we look decent?

Nope. no we havent which is sad since a short range passing attack should be pretty efficient, but with GD and the players there is no separation, therefore no throw is easy, therefore no YAC, which is troubling.

To quote a sage of our day...

"Practice.

Practice.

We talkin bout practice.

Not a game not a game.

Practice.

We talkin bout practice."

I heard Meatchicken looked like garbage.

Given that there is absolutely nothing to lose in a spring game, what could possibly be the reason not to open up the playbook and throw the ball down the field. What are you going to learn from throwing 2 yard outs in a spring game. Any QB can complete those throws, any WR can catch them, and any CB can guard them. The skill comes into play when you are taking chances, running risky plays. That is where you separate the men from the boys and figure out which of your WRs can catch, which of your LBs can cover, and which of your OL can block.

Seems risky.
