Biggest Concerns Following Saturday's Scrimmage

Here's another way of looking at it. Even if we would have had a great record say they only lost one game to say Wisconsin. What would we have been ranked? Top 10? Top 15ish? If Iowa ran the table I don't think they would have made it in to the final 4 just because of that soft schedule. I don't think even beating OSU in BIG title game would have been enough. Hell OSU was debated about getting in and they had a much tougher schedule then Iowa did.

The goal is to beat the opponents on the schedule no matter who they are. This team has the players to beat those teams. I personally enjoy every single win. I don't have a lot of time to worry about other teams unless they are an upcoming opponent. Then my goal is to help Iowa beat them with full energy and support.

Your right about you can only beat who you play when you play them. I get that. But it is possible to have a good record and not be a great or good team because of a soft schedule. It's not something that can really be changed other than how you play against them. And if Iowa is mediocre again this year against what looks like a mediocre schedule we'll have another 5 to 7 win season where we are all pulling our hair out. It's all the more reason for Iowa's record to not only be better say 8-9 wins but to look better doing it and win more impressively.

It's always been KF. It's just compounded more now that he's hired worse coaches to replace the ones who saved his butt

I would agree with that. KF hand is all over the offense. He made some self depreciated joke on the radio how he spends most of his time is the offensive meetings and how they allow him to do that.

OSU didn't run the table though.

Interesting that the OP is being called a troll yet some of his points are very hard to argue with.

The only people that would call the OP a troll because they are so butthurt by information that isn't sugar coated enough are lapdogs like Dean who needs no prodding to chug his Kool-Aid in bulk.

I disagree with the skeptics. This team is looking good this year.

Lomax is looking great against both the run and the pass.

Nate Meier is really looking strong and fast! He is going to have a big year!

All of the linebackers are looking very good. They are stepping up big time.

The DTs are playing well as I expected too.

Boone Myers is stepping up big time at LT.

The running backs are showing great speed burst and vision.

The kicking game looks very solid.

Etc etc

If I had any admin rights I'd take great pleasure laying the ban hammer to this ridiculous troll.

I notice some people on here that insist on being negative no matter what, and if someone is positive their only recourse is to start name calling. It's a shame.

Funny, if I had admin rights I'd take great pleasure laying the ban hammer on you, troll.

That's of little concern coming from someone who could actually back a poster claiming our kicking game is solid and that Nate Meier is due for a big year amongst a number of other face plant predictions.

Marshal Koehn did finish last year strong including hitting a 52 yard FG. He also led the Big 10 in touchback %. He is looking even better this spring he can be a major weapon. Saturday Nate Meier showed an awesome speed rush, he seems to be showing more strength too. I don't see any reason why he is not capable of having a big year.

Were you not aware that punting is also factored into the kicking game? Both of ours are horrific.

Nate Meier's "speed rush" vs. our patch work line will dry up the minute the ball is kicked for real

Koehn's punts were also pretty good. Don't rule out Miguel Recinos either. With kicking locked down by Koehn he could move into the punting position. After all he has a very strong leg too. At Mason City he hit a 58 yard field goal (3rd longest in Iowa high school history). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=27_N2r2njZg With Nate Meier he is going up against imo the best coached O-line in the country (2 coaches with super bowl championship experience) So I believe that his success will continue.

......so, you're thinking playoffs? Nice!

No major concerns- just offense, defense, special teams, coaching philosophy and game planning, minor things....

I don't mind run it down their throat games that look closer than they are. The game will be dominated by Iowa up front and have several time consuming drives so 27 points is good. With at least 7 of the clowns points coming in desperation time. Iowa also sits on the ball late in the 4th rather than going for another score. So a 34-6 type domination with a 27-13 result. There is nothing negative about that.

Against one of the worse teams in Div 1 football....and YOU are the board's biggest optimist...we could be in a lot of trouble this fall folks!

Huh? Your boy is the QB now, observations about "WR STILL (capitalized for emphasis) not getting open" notwithstanding. Implication being, of course, they weren't getting open last year, either.

It amazes me that everyone clamoring for CJB is now (already) laying blame elsewhere for an anticipated poor season.

So...if it's a good season, is it because coaching is better? Or is it because CJB is better than expected?

Picking and choosing is great. It's also fraught with the usual observations that come with tunnel vision.
