Beginning of The End for Kirk?

Be careful what you wish for. So few teams adopt the style of play our young men use that it serves as a competitive advantage against most of our opponents. Adopting a different offensive strategy like the wishbone will result in other programs being better able to stop us.

<<Of course it's their right to support the team and coaches regardless of their reasons, but it's painful for those who want more.>>

Is it time to reload your EBT card? That kind of thinking is straight out of the self-entitlement playbook.

Unless you, personally, are going to pony up $100k or more, your opinion holds zero water. Like it, don't like it, but learn to love it, because it's fact.

But what we saw last Saturday was something else entirely. I have NO idea what the hell our game plan was. I'd be hard-pressed, even after watching the game again, to put it into cogent word or phrase. And if Uncle Bruce's money is enough to keep Rastetter on the field, at least let him be our "designated fake-FG/punt-throwing-QB". Teams have figured out, "Hey, let an up man field the kick!". We'll figure it out 19 games from now.

I get what you are saying but even $100,000 donor will have little influence on what happens. Apparently the loss of millions on the law suit didn’t even phase them in the least. Barta is still here. Apparently the donors that are out there could care less about sports.

It is going to take firing Barta for anything to happen. I do think it is the beginning of the end. Next year is going to be worse than this year, especially if they don't find an answer at QB.

Its called alcohol and it makes you feel warm, until you end up like that kid in the snow bank a few years back.

Maybe we all need to drink gallons of it before each game so we can have the same numb feeling we get at the end of each game............. and yes both give some fans the vomiting sensation. o_O

I agree that in the PAST donors had a lot of influence on the football program. That landscape has changed significantly with the Big Ten Channel handing out over sixty million dollars every year to each big ten school. Even the wealthiest of donors doesn’t come close to that. Thinking back I remember amounts from the big donors ranging between one and two million dollars. That was huge in the programs of school but the BTN has changed the landscape of everything.
Actually the Big Ten paid out $36 million per school in 2017 and Iowa donors were $25.2 million. I don't have to tell you how much of that $25.2 million can be attributed to the football program.

Also, the Big Ten network isn't making decisions about coaching at Iowa. If anything they want to keep KF around because he makes for good TV.

Bottom line is the big donors are essential to the program. Iowa's athletic department runs on a zero-based budget and there's no way in hell the U can ignore what they want. You think the BOR (which includes backers of athletics) is just going to sit around and let Barta run the show, and piss off donors who could on a whim withhold millions of dollars from the athletic department? Nope. Again, we (purposely) spend every dime that comes in the door, are we to expect the football team to reduce travel expenses, or give up facilities, or make other big changes because they came up short from donors? Not going to happen.

I know it sounds idyllic to have an AD in charge which is supposed to be the point, but there's just too much money and outside influence for that to happen. Baseball or field hockey or golf? Sure. Barta can play in that sandbox. But P5 football and basketball have turned into monsters that Barta couldn't touch if he tried.

With a million dollars a year that’s a pretty expensive sandbox. Something just smells bad here. A million dollar salary for the AD and four million for the football coach. If you’re involved with either of those two guys would you want anything to change? Go annual 7-5 Wisconsin b!tche$. Purdue b!tche$ now?

It almost seems borderline illegal.

No one ever said the donor base is rational.

They want the aww shucks, no scandal football and they’ve got it.

However we spin it it isn’t changing.

I guess what I really don't get is the fact that, in spite of our usual "M.O.", there was absolutely NO way of discerning what last Saturday's game plan was supposed to be. I may be dense on this one. In fact, I AM dense on it. But would someone please tell me what the game plan actually was? Best guesses are fine. If I hit PowerBall or Mega Millions, I might pony up a meg just to find out...

There is a good chance any large corp or institution has some type of liability insurance to cover lawsuits etc. There are gamblers, I mean insurance companies, that will cover about anything if the premiums are right.

The UI may have only lost out on a small bit of money on the lawsuit Barta lost along with increased future premiums.

I know KF is an emotional guy,
but watching that locker room video after the Illinois game,
KF just looks like a dude who's on the brink of retiring.

KF is going no where because Gary Bar Bar is the AD and is scared shi!less of KF. Iowa will be 7-5 or 8-4 most years. They'll have a year of 6-6 or 10-2 every now and then. Many big doners are so far up KF's a$$, they are too blind to see how out of touch this program and coaching staff is.

Outside of Iowa, he!! inside of Iowa now, the program is becoming very quickly an after thought on Saturday afternoons. I fell asleep three times in the first half alone yesterday. What a bore fest it was.

Flipped back and forth to the ISU game as well. ISU is fun to watch most of the time. Kinnick cleared out a lot at halftime yesterday. Why do people want to freeze watching the crapfest that was Iowa football yesterday?
Kirk is running a Ponzi Scheme at Iowa, showing the ropes to Brian.
