That's exactly what it is. The last ditch effort to try and save face.

Barta is a PR clown and Kirk's staff can't coach their way out of a wet paper bag. If his recruiting skills were dynamite he couldn't blow his nose.

Yep, goes hand in hand with a coach who has failed deflecting blame by saying that the players didn't execute.

I think the biggest letdown for me in all of Barta's comments is that he has it engrained in his head this is the Kirk and Gary show. Iowa football was around for years and years before either of them set foot on the campus and it will continue to exist once they both are long gone. And so it is an insult to fans when he tosses out sugar coated comments like this. This is not a stupid fan base. This is a passionate fanbase. We know what this team is... We know we were 7-5 ... And a bad 7-5 team at that ... We know Kirk has basically been a .500 coach since 2010 ... We know we had inexcusable losses to ISU, Minny, and Nebraska ... We know we should have lost to Ball State.

So don't insult our intelligence with your unsupported comments. Don't make it sound like YOU and only YOU represent Iowa football. Iowa football is bigger than you Gary Barta... And so don't insult the hands that feed it.

Gary Barta is a yes man and an empty suit. He's pose-smile-and say all the right things guy. Until Sally Mason realizes this, he'll remain as comfortable as Kirk Ferentz.

All is well with Sally as long as the department is profitable.

He could of just as easily said.. "without question he will be Iowa's coach the next 4 seasons" and then Ferentz # 2 moves in.

I think this is the quote that bothers me the most. If we had lost to Ball State and Pitt I bet it would still be the same conversation rather then a different one.

Duhhhhhh that's why we ARE having the discussion because what clearly should have happened did NOT happen.
