Barta confirmed - NO CBI

Screw Barta. What a joke. So why doesn't he turn down subpar bowl appearances, a way higher percentage of football teams get bowl bids than basketball teams get postseason bids.

True that - he'll lose money on a Bowl trip to go to Tejas - I've been for firing Barta since he $#!+ the bed with the ISU FB contract renewal.

He's dead to me since he sold Fran down the river when Delaney weighed in on the chair throwing incident

F Barta

Re: Barta confrimed - NO CBI

Do they even have the right to influence something like this? Besides didn't the B10 come out and say there are no rules prohibiting it? Barta's own quote mentioned "business reasons", the B10 can't give a **** about whether or not Iowa makes or looses money and I can't think this is about the TV deal.

Yes, they have a lot of pull.

Iowa football and basketball are a lot like the movie Casino. Gary Barta is the Kevin Pollack character, meaning on paper he has the title for everyone to assume he's in charge. But in reality, Ferentz, Fran and unfortunately Jim Delany make all of the important decisions. Barta is just the mouth-piece.

Since I don't see Fran turning down an opportunity to play more games and continue to promote the program, I assume this "no CBI" stance is coming from Delany and the Big Ten offices.

Re: Barta confrimed - NO CBI

I know what Barta is saying, my point is it might be coming from above him.
Barta has no sack. That's the deal. He didn't with the Fran chair incident and he doesn't now.

He's not a Hawk. He's in this for the money like most AD's these days.

You think Bump Elliot would have put up with this?

I love the evaluations of an athletic director based on what may or may not be his feelings towards playing in a third tier basketball tournament that shouldn't exist.

And also the assessment of the man's scrotum, or lack thereof, based on the situation.

He's a pretty good athletic director when it counts. This ain't a big deal one way or the other.

I would think Fran and the rest of the Hawks would be to differ.

He's bending his knee to the Big Ten. Just like he did with the chair slamming thing.

I'd like all the people on here to eat some crow for calling me an idiot when I said we wouldn't go to the CBI. A Big 10 team will never participate in that tourney.

Maybe Barta already knows that we are in the NIT, hence confirmation of 'No CBI'.

Backdoor deals get done everyday and with Barta having said we 'put in an aggressive bid' maybe there was some indication that we will be one of the teams selected.

The NIT used to be something no team or fan base wanted to settle for. Now we have fans getting po'd with Barta/Delaney for not allowing Iowa to play in some sh*t tournament below the NIT. It's unreal how far we've fallen. Frankly, I'd feel a bit embarrassed to see Iowa playing in the CBI.

That's exactly why playing in anything would be a positive right now. We aren't talking the CBI or NIT as season goals, but for this group they deserve something. Next season you aim for the NCAA's just like every year following.

For fans to say they don't want the NIT or CBI now makes zero sense. I've already listed why it does in previous posts, but I haven't heard valid reasons why Iowa shouldn't play in either.
