Band Member's Social Media Post

So definitely ban the ISU band from Iowa City next year. If not in retaliation then to prevent an ugly incident the other way
I don’t know that there are enough law enforcement officers in Iowa to protect the ISU band ... if the game is played ... and the visiting band is allowed.

How much proof do you need? You got one kid going to the hospital with a broken rib, another showing where a beer bottle hit him in the arm...or are you going with the conspiracy theory that he did it to himself or it's make-up? You want the medical record for the hospital visit? You were the one talking about Jussie Smollet and how this was all some band members over-reaction. I think you have to reserve judgment here until more comes out...but you took a critical tone from the outset.

Band members take a lot of shit...not sure why exactly, but I remember it when I was in high school and college and I may have been on the giving part of some of it, as I was a football player and partied my ass off on football weekends. I did stupid shit I'm sure. But I didn't throw bottles at marching band members.

When you get older, have kids, and view something like this through a parent lens...it pisses you off. Honestly, I wish I would have been there when one of these douchebags throws a glass bottle at a kid because he's wearing another school's colors and represents the University. I would have detained the motherf&%&er that's for sure, or followed him around until I found a cop. It's bullshit.

There might be some good come out this actually. FryIowa's schtick has gotten old. He has some serious issues.
His impulsivity and rage was over the top. Hasn't Rob banned guys for calling out players? Maybe he should add bandmembers.

Fry is a tool. Hey Fry, are you willing to apologize to this bandmember named Corey? All the bandmembers?

Does anyone remember the AJ Klein (former ISU great) quote about if an ISU student wears an opposing teams t-shirt he should have the shit beat out of him. Things are out of whack in Lames.

If I were the U of I Pres, throw Barta under the bus, fire his ass and suspend the series.

The U of I President is part of the problem. He was a corporate hack who was hired under dubious circumstances by former Regent President Bruce Rastetter. Rastetter is a self proclaimed power broker. Rastetter stated publicly that universities should be run like businesses. We all know how seriously and adeptly corporations take matters like this. Good grief. It is like asking GM to investigate themselves.

So when you have a compromised and feckless president and AD and Board of Regents, then this is what you get. There is a genuine and serious leadership vacuum. Power brokers and big donors call the shots.

Intrepid reporters should start by calling on Rastetter and his ilk. Harreld and Barta are pawns.

The band is not Barta's problem. But, way to show yet another symptom of how our fucked up victim mentality further takes this country deeper into the shithole.

Do you ever take off your face paint or is it just a permanent smear?

How bleepin ignorant are you BOB?

Barta started this by making the first statement. If you took the time to do some critical thinking and pull your bobblehead out of your ass you might actually realize what is going on visa vi the Board of Regents, Big Donors, Athletic Department, UI administration ...

Serious question: Are you a UI administrator?

You're so full of shit it's scary. Scarier still? You believe the shit you post.

I scare you? The truth I posted should scare you or at least give you pause.

College sports is waaaay out of control but you just don't want to believe it. You are in denial. Even our great Kirk Ferentz has been corrupted at times.

Why are you in denial Bob? What is your investment?

For about the nineteenth time, Gary Barta should be fired.

For about the fifth time, Gary Barta should be fired for cause and not paid another cent.

It's sad that anyone with a brain and a pulse could have seen this coming, but Gary Barta couldn't...either because he doesn't care or he isn't smart enough.
Anyone with a brain knows that Gary was told to pull the plug on the investigation and play nice by someone higher up and with a lot more power.

I never say this, but in this case, Fryowa is spot-on.

Now go back to your Facebook Watch party and let the kids on 90210 get back to work.

I don't do Facebook or Snapshit or Twitter or any of that crap. I am probably the same age as you if 62 is your birth year.

I do question why I spend so much time debating BOOBs like you.

So the DI talked to the bruised guy.

https://dailyiowan.com/2019/09/20/v...es-being-bruised-by-beer-can-at-cy-hawk-game/

Bruise incident was before the game, outside the stadium (he gives a full description of where, but never having been to JT, I didn't pay much attention). So, "angry drunk clowns" was really just "stupid drunk clowns" in that case.

He doesn't say, and DI doesn't ask "did you see who did it?" Doesn't say / ask any form of "I've given enough info for an investigation to occur".

But, still disappointed in UI Athletics' investigation / lack thereof. Also, like Cooper, praises Dr. Bush (band director) for doing all he could. Praises him multiple times, actually. I found that discrepancy (Athletics / Dr Bush) interesting, given that he stated Dr Bush didn't gather the info from him until Monday, then passed it to Athletics. So your director does nothing for 2 days and you praise him, but Athletics are the bad guys for lack of effort?

And let us not forget that Pollard opened the gates at 5am to showcase his beloved university and its students.

You know showcasing how much beer his fan base can drink. He has actually sold this to potential bowl sites.

Whether it was students or townies is irrelevant. He created the atmosphere. His ass should be on the line.

Huh? He said he and others gave their director info on Monday. Should they have collected the info on Sunday? Perhaps. That is not 2 days though. Regardless, the director forwarded the info to the athletic department apparently on Monday. The student hasn't been contacted in 5 days from anyone in the athletic department. When was it that Barta said the investigation was over?

Yeah. I would say there was a lack of effort by the athletic department and administration at large.

Should they have collected the info on Sunday? Perhaps
Why wait 'tiil Sunday?

If you're convinced you were wronged / the victim of a crime, why wouldn't you deal w/ it at the time? The only realistic chance to find the perp is to deal w/ it then..

If they wouldn't take the time immediately, they shouldn't get all bent out of shape when things don't happen later, when there's no reasonable chance of tracking down the guy anyway.

These are good questions. I have no idea. I wasn't there.

I can only speculate. It sounds like it was multiple "guys" harassing and creating havoc. Psuedo mob mentality? How would you react? Maybe the police escorts did nothing? It sounds like band members are apparently used to being the victims of some level of harrassment. That is unfortunate. But this was different.
Maybe they had a feeling their concerns wouldn't be taken seriously or addressed. Conditioned to think this way?
Newsflash. They weren't in the end. Multiple examples of harrassment and violent acts were forwarded to Gary Barta apparently. No interviews. No contact. Case closed. Why? That is where the investigation should lead.

Nice try though. Blaming the band members.

Were you one of those blaming the rhabdo-afflicted players. For partying too much? Taking steroids?

Why do we do this as fans?

Bands stay home. Saves money, wont be missed. No babysitting required. I played in band in high school.....played 4 sports...before any tromboner or flautist replies in anger. But the football game is the "show" and if the rest cant be properly policed, cut it.

You get enough velocity on a well thrown cymbal(frisbee style) and you just might be able to take a clowns head off. Personally though...I would take two cymbals and start serving up deafoning, bloody, ear claps.

Again, that's just me though and I'm just spit balling ideas...the possibilities are endless!

Another possibility.

Clearly Barta didn't investigate. Maybe he didn't even alert the UI president. Maybe he and Pollard met with a power broker, someone who feels he owns the UI president for instance, and they decided to shut it down.

But they erred because they are arrrogant and clueless and didn't realize this might just have legs and they were surprised that some college students display courage at times.
