Badger Football Hire a Lesson for Iowa?

Unless of course Andersen actually, you know, succeeds in Madison. Then the point is what?

I think you are still missing the point. It isn't a direct relation because Iowa would be firing Ferentz and Bielema left to take a new job, those are completely different scenarios.

However, Wisconsin is struggling to replace their head coach. They aren't fooling anyone Utah State's coach wasn't their # 1 choice, he was the # 1 to say yes.

Anyway, back the point at hand which is if Iowa forces Ferentz out, they could also struggle to get a top end coach and have to settle for someone unproven that the BCS level.

Maybe he will succeed, maybe he won't, that is the point of the phrase "The grass isn't always greener on the other side."

Iowa got their *** kicked by Indiana, who was playing a back up qb and had a team younger than Iowa. Iowa was starting a 5th year, veteran quarterback, had veteran receivers back and were 3 deep at the Tight end position, but the absolute horrific coaching of this team failed to take advantage of that. If I see another post blaming the youth of our team on this piece of crap season, I think my head will burst. Again, 6-6 should have been a total gimme given the schedule this past season.

I agree with blubberhawk, that 6 win should have been a gimmie. What I dont agree with is that youth and inexperince were not a problem. Along with 2 new cooridnaters several new position coaches and maybe 1 or 2 that should have already been changed. I just dont see anything that is not fixable.

Who in their right mind thinks Iowa is going to get an established BCS level head coach to come here? That almost never happens in college football. Florida hired Urban Meyer from Utah, Michigan hired Brady Hoke from San Diego St, Texas A&M hired Sumlin from Houston. Of course we aren't going to get a "top end" coach. We would get a top coordinator from a BCS school or a successful mid major coach, like almost every single other BCS level school that hires a new coach does.

Wisconsin hired a coach who had proven himself quite well at the mid major level, leading Utah St to a Top 25 ranking even. I would not call this struggling to fill the position.

I for one don't think so, you clearly don't either judging by your response. But others have brought this up a lot of people keep taking about Bob Stoops (won't happen).

Either way, it goes both ways, Iowa could get a top level OC or DC or another assistant that comes in and succeeds but maybe they don't. That is the point, maybe Iowa replaces Kirk Ferentz the hire is a bust, just like Todd Lickliter replacing Steve Alford.

I don't agree with that line of thinking but that is the point. Can't live scared all the time that if you make a change it won't work out.

Well damn, if a couple of bloggers doesn't constitute "Most of the national football media", I don't know what does.

No, but I am sure an older WAC coach who has never recruited this time zone is clearly a home run hire. I mean, after all, he knows Urban Meyer! Meyer never had success after Andersen left him....

Anyone have any ideas who may have turned Wisc. down if you think Andersen was not their #1 choice?

Saw this in hawkfan33 links:

In a search where names as big as Boise State’s Chris Petersen were discussed and other candidates such as Miami's Al Golden and Iowa State's Paul Rhoads reportedly declined Alvarez's overtures
.

And what would make Al Golden a better hire than Andersen?
6-6 and 7-5 at Miami.
Hell, Utah State probably would have won the ACC this year.

Yes Stewart Mandel is just a blogger, not the lead football writer for CNNSI.

Good job, good effort.

I couldn't disagree with Jon more. Wisconsin got such a late start looking for a coach that all the good available ones were already snatched up. With how overly patient our athletic department is and how overly willing they are to write blank checks, I think Iowa could get a great coach. But, owa and Gary Barta are so overly conservative that they would rather take guaranteed average football rather than take a gamble and hire a new coach and start over.

I think we have seen where Kirk is capable of taking us and I have seen enough. 15 years and only two conference titles doesn't cut it for me and it shouldn't for anyone else. NOT GOOD ENOUGH.
