B1G realignment

Should the B1G consider booting PSU? If they do, should PSU be replaced?

For those worring about scheduling, I think the line waiting to join the B1G would find plenty of suitable candidates.

But...in the mean time...would the B1G have to forgo the football championship game? How quickly could PSU be replaced?

I'd imagine the Big Ten would likely go after Pitt. Pitt seems like the most seamless replacement for PSU being in Pennsylvania.

Pitt won't be coming. They just made the move to the ACC. Maybe this could be the big push where the Big10 gets ND finally?

One problem with ND: with all the Pedo State references, it would pretty disingenuous to take a school whose whole existence/foundation would be the Catholic Church, which has had a few pedo incidents--not to mention cover-ups--of its own.

What attracted the Big Ten to Penn State? I would say Joe Paterno and the football program. Paterno is gone and his legacy is mired in controversy. Penn State will never be the national attraction that is was when Paterno was the head coach. You also have to take into account the negative backlash having a institution like Penn State in your conference can have on the image, marketing, and TV revenue of the conference. We all seen how some of the bowls backed off Penn State, nobody wants to be associated with them. The Big Ten has the perfect opportunity to sever ties with Penn State and I think they should do it. At the very least suspend their membership and take away their share of the TV revenues. While I get they may not ban them from TV, but the thought of watching Penn State and hearing their fans cry "We are Penn State" just makes me sick.

There are plenty of quality institutions that would line up at the opportunity to join the Big Ten, there is no good reason to keep them in the conference.

Pitt would drop the ACC in a heartbeat if an invite into the B1G was offered.
Especially if the talks of FSU and Clemson to the Big 12 become a reality. Pretty much the last "football-ish" schools in the ACC will want out and out quickly.

I would rather sign a home and home with Akron.

Don't count Akron out as B1G material, maybe? Kidding!

I think the bigger question is whether the B1G should "worry" about immediately replacing PSU. If a football championship game is the motivator, does that speak very well of the B1G?

Pros to "replacing":
--Keep championship game
--Keep two six-team divisions
--Get rid of PSU "taint"

Cons to replacing:
--Does B1G find "best" candidate
--Replacing some team's "rivalry" game

Pros to "dumping" and staying at 11 teams:
--Can go back to the previous Big ten logo with that stylish "11" enncapsulated in it
--NO championship game, which means NO morons from Fox butchering names and trying to sneak in comments about how truly wonderful the SEC is, which also means no Big Ten team could lose that game and lose out on BCS title game or lose an at-large bid

Cons to "dumping" and staying at 11 teams:
--No championship game means some revenue loss
--Some poor soul wasted a lot of time on the B1G logo

Didn't the ACC institute a pretty hefty buyout clause if you try to leave? It was either them or the Big East after Pitt and Cuse left. If it was the ACC who put it in dropping them in a heartbeat might not be so easy.

This is an asinine comment. Talk about a reach.

They did impose a heavy buyout in order to leave the conference but obviously that is not stopping anyone else from leaving the ACC. Bottom line is there is much more money to be made and prestige being in the Big Ten than in the ACC. Short term it would hurt Pitt to leave the ACC but long term would be very profitable.

Sorry, but the dude has a point. If you are going to throw out PSU because of how they mishandled a serial pedophile case, you don't go looking for the Catholic Church as a replacement. That is unless you want to be the new face of irony.

And before you hammer me, understand I have two cousins that not only were victimized by a Priest, but were also victims of a brutal smear attack by the Diocese and larger church in general.

i wouldn't be so sure...I'm afraid to guess either way.

No need to be afraid.....it's a message board dude. If you can't make wild guesses here, where can you make them?
My guess is, although I would love the Big 10 to kick them out, they're staying.
