I completely agree with this part of your comment. It's obvious that the hammer is coming down on PSU, and even though it's not the death penalty, it is going to be harsh enough to cripple that program for a long time. I doubt they will ever be able to reach their previous level of the 80's/90's. Probably will never be more than a Illinois-Purdue-Northwestern level. The conference should take the opportunity to cut-bait and find a strong replacement while they can. ND still probably won't join, so Pitt is a solid fallback. And they're not in the ACC yet, but have given notice they're leaving the BE. Bank on it that they would gladly bail onThere has to be something in the by laws of the B1G that if another institution causes harm to its fellow conference institutions they would get the boot from the league. It seems to be that what is about to happen to PSU its going to hurt the rest of the B1G.Boot them! I say go out and grab ND and tell them this is their last chance. If they decline then go invite Pitt and if they decline make a splash...invite Florida State away from the ACC. It doesn't have to make geographical sense. It just has to strengthen the B1G.
the ACC and accept a B1G invite.
Somehow, i think they have a much, much larger and more passionate fan base than these schools...while knocked down or even out for a few years (5), they WILL rise back.
Is it worth keeping them around? My guess is probably so,(five years passes fast) but also limiting their conference financial split in football via suspension of some length. Their other sports, while not lucrative, don't just disappear. It will be interesting to see what B1G does because I dont think they want to give up their conference CG, and I would guess that they don't want to just blindly invite some other school just to round out their number.
