B1G realignment

Neither were PSU fans, students, etc.

They were at the institution where the child raping was enabled and concealed.

They are justifiable collateral damage.

It's like hanging out with Al Qaeda...if you're hanging around with those people and you happen to get capped by one of Barack's drones, well, tough sh!t.

Thus backing my point about ND...

Saying that Notre Dame carries the stain of the abuse of the Catholic Church is like saying the Pennsylvania DMV carries the stain of the Penn State scandal. If you're going to indict the Irish for the sins of other organs of the See, then you also must consider every driver in Wilkes-Barre an accessory to child abuse.

No I mustn't

Here is the flaw in your reasoning. The entire leadership of the Catholic Church was part of the abuse cover-up. It is a long standing issue that goes back over the life of the Church and covers the tenure of every Pope since any current Cardinal was born. The leadership of Notre Dame is part of the leadership of the Catholic Church.

The DMV would be like the registrar's office at ND or PSU. We wouldn't hold either responsible, because they wouldn't have the power to enact punishment to exert control. The Drivers would be like the students. We are not holding them accountable.

Now, if the registrar's office started arguing that the abusive clergy or the leaders who were perpetrating the cover-up like Lynn, etc., then we could see them as complicit as well.

So apparently PSU is not going to get suspended for the season, but is, according to ESPN, going to receive penalties so harsh that the death penalty might have been preferable. Big scholarship losses and an extensive bowl ban among other things.

Which, by extension, is going to punish the B1G by being stuck with a POS albatross.

Boot 'em, I say. They've earned it.

LOL...analogy of the year candidate right there! :)

Wrong.

Notre Dame isn't even operated by the Catholic Church, it is run by an organization of clergy called "The Congregation of Holy Cross" who run schools and universities all over the world. And the President of Notre Dame is a priest, not a Bishop or Cardinal, and the vast majority of the Notre Dame trustees are laity, not clergy.

Just because the school identifies itself through Catholic values does not mean it is "run" by the Church.

LOL, and how many of those "clergy" are of the Lutheran, Unitarian, or Muslim faith?

Yeah, no real tie between the Catholic Church and the universities it founded and support.

I have no problems with ND or Pitt. But I dont think thry will boot PSU. 5 years go by fast. I would bet a suspension in football of sorts.

Google Pontification University and Peru. You will see that the Vatican Determines who can and cannot call themselves a Catholic University. Also, how do you think John James became President? By being ordained as a Catholic Priest and being selected by Catholic Priests. All of this is under the final purview of the Vatican.

Now, don't get me wrong. I wouldn't protest Notre Dame's admission to the B1G. Just saying the OP had a point in saying ND would not be the one institution you should choose if your goal is to take a stand against covering up child abuse issues. If you can't see that, I suspect you might be too close to the situation the same way the PSU supporters are too close to their situation.

There has to be something in the by laws of the B1G that if another institution causes harm to its fellow conference institutions they would get the boot from the league. It seems to be that what is about to happen to PSU its going to hurt the rest of the B1G.

Boot them! I say go out and grab ND and tell them this is their last chance. If they decline then go invite Pitt and if they decline make a splash...invite Florida State away from the ACC. It doesn't have to make geographical sense. It just has to strengthen the B1G.

Florida State? LOL, that's ridiculous.

I completely agree with this part of your comment.

It's obvious that the hammer is coming down on PSU, and even though it's not the death penalty, it is going to be harsh enough to cripple that program for a long time. I doubt they will ever be able to reach their previous level of the 80's/90's. Probably will never be more than a Illinois-Purdue-Northwestern level. The conference should take the opportunity to cut-bait and find a strong replacement while they can. ND still probably won't join, so Pitt is a solid fallback. And they're not in the ACC yet, but have given notice they're leaving the BE. Bank on it that they would gladly bail on the ACC and accept a B1G invite.
