I think the Big Ten has shown very well so far. Too bad that Purdue could not finish off KU last nite. If LewJack makes those layups he missed, they win. If I did not know better,I would say he had money bet on KU.
I think the Big Ten has shown to have the best depth...ie, at least 50% of the league is very tough vs Big East, probably top 30% of the league is tough. The rest are less.
Now, of course, having depth is great, but in the end,you need great top teams to make the FF. MSU and OSU have good shots, but no locks.
I think Kentucky and UNC(with Marshall) clearly have the best talent in the tourny..with Cuse(with Melo) close behind.
Now,that said, those teams have not been thru the grinder that MSU and OSU have all season,so anything can happen.
Still, MSU has a tough road to the FF with Louisville and Florida looming.
OSU has a very good Cinncy, and Cuse waiting.
Kentucky and UNC have easier routes, altho KU could use their get out of PU prision card well vs UNC if Marshall is out.
The deal is....the Big Ten will be just as good next year, imo.
Sure, Green is gone from MSU,but they add some more talent, and return a solid core of Nix,Payne,Appling,Dawson,Trice, and Kearny. Add Gary Harris and Valentine...yikes.
Wisky loses Taylor, but returns Gasser,Brust,Brueswitz,Bergrenn,Evans,Kamisky, and adds redshirts Uthoff,Anderson, and pg Marshall. Also add top 20 player Sam Decker who had an amazing finish to his season...state title game- 40 pts,12 pts in last 60 seconds, 3 pointer with 3 seconds left,to win 67-66. This kid is a total stud, and at 6'7'' will have the best handle, shooter and most athletic guy on the Badgers next year.
IU adds the #2 ranked class to returning core that is in the sweet 16....ohmigd.
Michigan returns everyone but Novak and Douglass, and adds the #3 ranked player,a 6'11'' zeller-like stud,McGrary, and Glenn Robinson jr...a top 45 player.
OSU will be good,as usual..always talent on their bench ready to jump in.
Those 5 teams could be top 12 in the country....Yikes...we are seeing the advent of the new ''Golden Age'' of Big Ten bb...mark my words.
