B10 is the best damn conference in America Pt 2

After going 8-1 in opening tournament (NCAA+NIT) games in round 2 the B10 proves beyond a shadow of a doubt they are the best basketball conference in America this year.

Their collective record stands at 12-4, and they comprise 25% of the Sweet 16. If the NCAA hadn't stacked the brackets to prevent it the B10 would have probably made up 3/4's of the final four.

I think the Big Ten has shown very well so far. Too bad that Purdue could not finish off KU last nite. If LewJack makes those layups he missed, they win. If I did not know better,I would say he had money bet on KU.

I think the Big Ten has shown to have the best depth...ie, at least 50% of the league is very tough vs Big East, probably top 30% of the league is tough. The rest are less.

Now, of course, having depth is great,but in the end,you need great top teams to make the FF. MSU and OSU have good shots,but no locks.
I think Kentucky and UNC(with Marshall) clearly have the best talent in the tourny..with Cuse(with Melo) close behind.
Now,that said, those teams have not been thru the grinder that MSU and OSU have all season,so anything can happen.
Still, MSU has a tough road to the FF with Louisville and Florida looming.
OSU has a very good Cinncy,and Cuse waiting.
Kentucky and UNC have easier routes,altho KU could use their get out of PU prision card well vs UNC if Marshall is out.

The deal is....the Big Ten will be just as good next year,imo.

Sure, Green is gone from MSU,but they add some more talent,and return a solid core of Nix,Payne,Appling,Dawson,Trice,and Kearny. Add Gary Harris and Valentine...yikes.

Wisky loses Taylor, but returns Gasser,Brust,Brueswitz,Bergrenn,Evans,Kamisky,and adds redshirts Uthoff,Anderson,and pg Marshall. Also add top 20 player Sam Decker who had an amazing finish to his season...state title game- 40 pts,12 pts in last 60 seconds, 3 pointer with 3 seconds left,to win 67-66. This kid is a total stud,and at 6'7'' will have the best handle,shooter and most athletic guy on the Badgers next year.

IU adds the #2 ranked class to returning core that is in the sweet 16....ohmigd.

Michigan returns everyone but Novak and Douglass,and adds the #3 ranked player,a 6'11'' zeller-like stud,McGrary,and Glenn Robinson jr...a top 45 player.

OSU will be good,as usual..always talent on their bench ready to jump in.

Those 5 teams could be top 12 in the country....Yikes...we are seeing the advent of the new ''Golden Age'' of Big Ten bb...mark my words.

Big 10 is looking solid right now!

Still a lot to see to see if it is the best though. Wisconsin is the only team with a nice win so far beating Vandy. Every other Big 10 win has been against poor teams. 7 seeds or worse.

Those Big Ten teams have earned those top 4 seeds thru a long season.
None of the other top teams from other leagues have beaten anyone either,really,cept for NCSt.

The only real value left for the regular season is the ability to play your way into the second weekend...altho game 2 is always tough for everyone,cept maybe #1 seeds.

This is true. I put a lot of value in the next weeks games. I like to see the top compete against the top. Really excited to see MSU take on Louisville and than the winner of FLA/Marquette. I think OSU rolls in the final four. Indiana will get smoked by Kentucky. Wisconsin and Syracuse should be a great game

Does anybody else think Painter should have called timeout when they were up by 3 with 1.5 mintues (approx) to go?

They had just scored off of a well-designed play off of a timeout on the previous possession. They had 2 timouts left. If they score there, they go up 5 (or 6) and probably win. Instead, they turned it over, which lead to the oop dunk and started the implosion.

If only Pur-don't could have held on to defeat Kansas.......how sweet that would've been. Even so, B1G has completely dominated this tourney.

I don't know if a time out at that point helps, but I sure as **** would have called one during that possession in which my PG was dribbling all over the place for no apparent reason. He ended up turning it over and Kansas took the lead.

Great analysis!

Iowa may have to be significantly better next year just to finish 7th in the conference. It looks like Illinois, Iowa, Minnesota & Purdue battling for the 6th & 7th spots. Then there's Nebraska & Penn State.

It's a long way from now until the start of conference play in late December, but it looks like the Hawks have their work cut out for them.

Yea, I have to imagine Kentucky is salivating over their rematch with Indiana, the team who ruined their dream of a perfect season.

I was referring to the possession right before that.

The possession to which you are referring actually had a timeout right before it taken by Kansas.

What's it matter who the best conference is? There will never be a clear cut answer, and there is no award for the winner. All you get is some hack like Seth Davis talking up your conference. No thanks.

Why does it matter? RECRUITING. Instead of the top midwest preps going to the ACC and Big East, if the image of the Big Ten rises, they will stay at home. And maybe Big Ten schools can reverse the historical trend and actually pull some of the top players in Texas,the SE and East Coast to the midwest. These top recruits float to where they think is the hottest place to play.

B1G will never compete with SEC money or the perception of the ACC (as long as there's an ESPN and Dukey V) so beating their a$$es on the court in front of a national audience will have to do...and right now it's doing just fine(2 straight years of winning the Big10/ACC Challenge). They just have to keep it up...fortunately there are enough great players in the midwest right now to help elevate the conference as well, but bringing home the NCAA title will also help. Anything short of that will get the "4 in the sweet 16" talk shoved aside by the ESPNs of the world.

The perception the ACC gained was by winning.... and rightfully so, as they beat the B10 every year in the challenge. How has that been working lately? The perception right now is that the B10 is better It is more than a perception, the Big Ten is better than the ACC in basketball.

Duke/UNC are the only two teams in the ACC that have a high perception... but, after that? Unfailry, NC State? Clemson? G' Tech? Wake? Nah. Ain't buying it.

I know what you're saying and I agree with you on that being how it SHOULD be seen...but ESPN's love of everything Duke and UNC would still have most of the nation believing in the perception that the ACC is better than the B1G...even now after 2 straight Challenge wins for the conference...and even if MSU or OSU cuts down the nets.

ESPN, CBS, etc all acknowledge the ACC is down, and has been down for a few years.

Final 4 by Conference Last 5 Years (2007-2011):
Big East = 5
B1G = 3
ACC = 3
SEC = 2
Pac 10 = 2
Big 12 = 1

Sweet 16 by Conference Last 2 Years (2011-2012):
Big East = 6
B1G = 6
ACC = 5
SEC = 4
Big 12 = 3
Pac 10 = 1

I hope Michigan State and Ohio State win this weekend... but it is really hard to cheer for Wisconsin and Indiana. Especially Wisconsin. I will because they are B10 teams, but then we have to hear about it.
Wisconsin fans in particular. Do you think during the 80s and 90s when they were horrible and Iowa was going to the NCAA every year they were cheering for Iowa? Heck no! They hate Iowa and every other Big Ten team so badly that it is sickening.
I try not to fall prey to the hate... and haven't. But I do know the bragging and sheet' talk is coming. Blah Blah Blah. Bo.. Bo.. Bo... Badgers... Blah!

True... but the hoosiers were damn lucky to get away with their win... down 5 with a min to go... im kinda butthurt on that loss as i had $ on the moneyline for VCU and it woulda been a decent payout.
