I remember hearing that Iowa has more miles of road than any state in the US......
They are ranked 11th with 2 states behind about 200 miles. Iowa has about 113,800 miles of roads. About 10% behind Missouri and 20% behind IL. Texas blows everybody off the road.
Iowa is cheap with the limestone roads. It's also a health hazard not talked about. You don't really notice until you come back and visit. My kids laughed once when they thought we were on an Interstate that had tractors on it, but it was the 4 lane west of Waterloo.
Missouri has some kind of paving of most all rural roads as does IL. The few in IL that are not are for sure not limestone. Not sure what someone was thinking, but probably some farmer road commissioners.
