An example of good basketball uniforms

I happen to like the home unis now - the gold ones, not the white. As far as I'm concerned, the white home unis can go the way of the Dodo bird.

OP....great uni. I don't really care for the knee length baggy look of today.

Heck....bring back the belts on the pants!

I think we were the last team in the country on any level with belted pants, during the Schultz era in the 70s.

The gold home Uni's are sick.

Are road uni's are the best in the league. Just sayin.

Might be, if the numbers were visible. Black numbers on black jerseys make it look like we're not proud of our identity and trying to hide, IMO. Wouldn't be so bad if the gold outlining was thicker.

Again, showing my age here, but does anyone remember the old Marquette jerseys back in the day that were untucked by design? See below. I remember thinking they were cool then, but not sure now. Oh, and sorry for the short shorts in the pic as well.

That jersey looks kind of like a bib.

Here's the home uniforms (on Butch Lee, my favorite player from the team that won the NCAA tourney):

I liked the ******, but not the shorty-shorts with the ******. I also liked the yellow ****** helmets back in the day, but not as much as the non ****** current hawkeye helmets. There. It looks like I swore a lot. bucket, your posts are hilarious.

Re: Agreed, Troy.

I have always liked those unis. I believe they are the same ones Kenny Arnold had all four years, but am not 100% sure they had those his freshman year when we went to the Final Four.

We didn't wear gold during the Final Four year. Our home whites had "Hawks" in ******, with black triangles on the shorts and a gold "I" in the triangle. However, the road blacks were the same style as the gold uni shown above.

I am old enough to remember the "bumblebee" uni's Marquette wore (early 70's). I loved watching Marquette and Al McGuire back in the day. If you are bored and have idle time check out the story about who designed Marquette's untucked uni's.

Marquette's uniforms have long been trendsetters - JSOnline

Since all of the fashionistas are weighing in here is something I have wondered about for years.

Kudos to Coach Fry and instilling a winning attitude by copying the Steelers uniforms, but given we have long ago established a successful program, would anyone like to see a uniform overhaul? Keep the TigerHawk but what about removing the stripe from the helmet and going metallic? Get rid of the stripe on the pants and go with an all black home uni? Leaner, meaner look? How about dumping the yellow and actually going back to gold? Thoughts?

My all-time favorite Iowa basketball uniform came from the 1992-93 season (the year Chris Street passed away). The gold set worn was especially sharp. I always liked it when Mr. Davis's teams always had a new set of uniforms every year. I also loved the ****** Iowa uni's from the early 80's as well.

In my opinion, our football jerseys are SWEET and don't want to see them change. I'm not a fan of change for the sake of change, and like to stick with what works. I also like the idea of sticking with the same jersey and having a recognizeable "tradition", where someone sees the jerseys and instantly know what team wears them, like the way Michigan or Alabama's jerseys are. On the other extreme, there's Oregon...

I think the helmets rock too, but I guess I don't really care one way or the other about the stripe. Otherwise, I love the black helmet with the gold tigerhawk logo on the side. I say don't change it. Might look kinda cool with a pure black helmet with the logo on the side, simliar to 'Bamas helmets except they have the player number, and we'd have the tigerhawk on the side.

Can't say I'm a fan of the 1-color pants/jersey look. I prefer the gold/black contrast.

You can't improve upon perfect.

I enjoy the cursive look, but I like the mid 80s iowa unis the best. White with yellow numbers black outline. Block IOWA on chest. I dont know if I would go with the BB on the side of the shorts, but you could change that pretty easy.

We should to simple - similar to the Fab 5 Michigan ones, only with block I O W A in same font Wrestling puts on the leg of their singlet. FB unis copied a dominant NFL team and that's worked out pretty well. BBall should steal from our dominant wrestling team!

Here is a uniform with the belted look. A modernized version of these uniforms, without the belts, would look ok. I prefer basic uniforms. I also prefer the jerseys to read "IOWA," on the front of the uniform, instead of "HAWKEYES."

Kenny Arnold was a sophomore the Final Four year.

That old unis was nice back then, but that style is just too blase' to be a regular uni now. As mentioned earlier, simpler is better, and the block ****** like the wrestling team has is classic and simple.
