I assume something's missing here ( "from OSU on the radar" )? Or, am I missing something?

Also, they've been in nickel defense quite a bit this year. They were Saturday. Hell, they were in the 2nd half against NDSU even when they were getting gashed by runs every play.
 
Q. The depth chart thing, Aaron Mends fell off this week and I don't think he played last week --
KIRK FERENTZ: That's how we ended up Saturday. But it's clearly cloudy right now. Maybe we'll get some things cleared up next week during the bye week. Hopefully we can get a little clarity there because it is what it is.

Q. He was No. 1 in camp, that's why I ask.
KIRK FERENTZ: After Bo right now, it would be Hockaday quite frankly, who I think I have on there.
 
I will give the staff credit for being so tight lipped. You get almost nothing out of them in regards to team drama. I appreciate that.

Yeah, the wording was a not right there. Gonzalez was a good WR in college but not that good. Greenway was matched up on him A LOT during a game and got smoked. Nothing against Greenway but that put Gonzalez on a different level.
I did not get to watch the whole game Saturday so I was not aware that they did run a lot of nickle. Traditionally though they have not run it a lot. Thanks for pointing that out.
 
I wonder what happened to make Mends go from one of the players that got the defense back on track in practice, to in the dog house, in a two week period.

Maybe Ickehawk is Kirk Ferentz. He defends all the good story players at nauseum and is overly critical of the good player's mistakes. He also sounds intelligent when talking about x's and o's, but sounds like a fool when talking about why one player is "better" than another or talking in game schemes. Yep, he's Kirk Ferentz.

KF 'imposes' himself on every aspect of the team, LOL.........Source of reference please? You are 'clueless'. I have talked to kids ON THE TEAM for years, and KF 'imposes' very little influence over the position depth outside of the O-line and the QB........

You are just a complete idiot. Period. I have proven myself over YOU time and time again, but you are just the typical ignorant 'murican' football fan.....just play your 'fantasy football' and leave 'reality' football to us, would ya.......

THAT BEING SAID, it is not a criminal offense to suggest he does not have the physical tools to be a D1 LB like Ickehawk makes it out to be. Bower just isn't a good athlete. He is often out of position, and is not fast enough to make the plays we need him to make. It was no coincidence that when he was beaten out by Fisher last year that our LB play improved greatly (along with Jewell and Niemann of course). Bower was great at his role of a pass rusher and hustle guy, and I feel that's where he needs to stay. It's time to give Hockaday or Mends a shot at the starting role.

And before he comes back in this thread and goes off on another hissy fit, can we have a serious discussion about banning Icke? The personal attacks are getting out of hand.

Out of position? That shows how 'little' you folks know about Iowa's scheme. He plays because he is the 'least' out of position. He doesn't make a bunch of 'highlight' reel plays, but he doesn't make very many mistakes....and it kills me, because announcers are so 'biased' and like 'cable news' by just reeling off names that are familiar and catch phrases...like everytime Bower makes the play and Jewell comes in and 'cleans up' at the end all they do is mention 'Jewell'. If seen it 10-15 times in the last 2 games!!!

Homer, I usually like your posts but which Jeff Parker are you talking about? The jazz guitarist or the comic book artist? ;) Or do you mean Phil Parker?

I feel really sorry for you if you think that we fans and this or any other message board had anything to do with Stanzi or Beathard starting. Not because you think that Coach is that insecure, but because you denigrate the hard work that those two put in to earn the starting job.

I didn't know our defensive scheme called for making tackles after 5 and 6 yard gains.

And the announcers are not "biased". Jewell is an exceptional football player, Bower is not. That's why Bower doesn't get talked about.

Settle down there Francis don't get your panties in a bunch. It was in no way a criticism of Beatherd and Stanzi, just the opposite. Re-read and try to use some critical thinking skills.
