2019 Tyreke Locure

Locure is better all around. The numbers don't lie.

Carton:
Avg: 25pts, 6.5 rbds, 1.4 steals, .36 blocks, 3.09 assists, 3.18 turnovers
Avg: FG 48.9%, 3PT 34.2%, FT 75.8%

Locure:
Avg: 28.9pts, 5.5 rbds, 4 steals, .18 blocks, 6.43 assists, 3.75 turnovers
Avg: FG 46.8%, 3PT 34.5%, FT 77.5%

In your opinion, who is the better defender?

You are entitled to that opinion. I don't discredit that it is comparable enough that it is a plausible discussion, but almost every if not every recruiting service would disagree.

I haven't seen Carton play so I can't compare but I'm surprised by this comment.

I was under the perception that Locure was a better offensive player or at least scorer and I figured Carton was a more well rounded player and a better defender.

If you haven't watched already, it is time to.

Definitely Locure. Carton isn't as quick laterally.

I'm not arguing that Locure is quicker. Also much smaller. He harasses opposing ball handlers like OSU's Craft. His shot and offensive repertoire are much less polished then Cartons. I would really like to have both, but that is extremely unlikely. I could see Locure being very similar to Sapp for Iowa.

Nobody in the state of Iowa has better handles than Tyreke Locure. Let's just get that out of the way right now. Also, Carton's & Locure's shooting stats are very similar. That being said, Locure hits Bohannon type deep threes pretty much every game. Take a closer look at Carton and you'll notice his release gets lower & lower the further he is from the basket, which is odd, because he is a strong kid. Stronger than Locure.

Ya I'm not shitting on the kid. He definitely has a skill set. He is also what 5 maybe 6" shorter than DJ? I have seen both play in person now and honestly came away impressed with both. Locure's size is an issue with most D1 programs and that is not something easily overlooked. It does cast doubt on his ability to score at a B1G level. However I have stated before that if my PG can handle, pass, drive, and play lock down defense I don't care if he scores. If I were Fran I would consider Locure to be a defensive lock on the perimeter and I would offer him immediately if he told me he would commit immediately. Then I would focus on bringing in Carton as well as an offensive weapon. If he committed I would find a way to make room on the roster. Probably ask Ellingson to grad transfer or walk on for his last season as there is no way he would play over Moss, Daily, Jbo, Wieskamp or Connor. Add in Locure and DJ and there is no way Ellingson touches the floor again.

Plus I think Locure would consider a redshirt year which would help us space out the class.

Thanks for sharing. After watching I would give Carton an edge on defense based on size and strength. He's also averaging more steals and blocks than Locure per the stats.

I would give Locure the advantage on shooting.... I think he has a deeper range.
Locure is quicker and maybe a little better ball handler but Carton is probably a better potential finisher in D1 basketball again based on size and strength.

Locure averages 4 steals a game (most in 4A), while Carton averages 1.4 steals a game.

I could see how you could come to that conclusion, but you have to watch Locure to understand exactly how disruptive he is on defense. Some of that doesn't show up in stats. I promise that Locure is the superior defender. He is never going to block a single shot, but good luck finding much space to get a shot or pass off cleanly.

I like Locure and would like to have both but I can't get over that Carton has offers from Iowa, Wiscy, Marquette and other P5 schools while Locure has offers from Drake and ND State (SD State? can't remember). So much of it is projecting how a recruit would play once he gets to the next level.

All that said, I'm really intrigued by Locure and it would be more fun to land him than Carton if nothing else.

Is Locure similar to Washpun? Size is the only thing holding programs back? Washpun worked out well for UNI. Seems a familiar feel to me.

Yes, but Washpun was like 6'0 coming out of high school. Locure is 5'10 if you count the hair. I don't really care how tall he is though. He is quick and relentless. He seems like a awfully confident kid. I wouldn't mind 1 tiny guard with defensive instincts to solve the occasional match up problem. Fran loves versatility but you can't make 6'3-6'11 kids shrink to 5'11. We see plenty of guards that are 6'0 and under. The kid has value in my book and even a dog knows to scratch were it itches.

I don't think landing Locure requires any level of sport. I imagine if we offered he would jump. Maybe Fran just doesn't want competition so he will wait as long as possible to not alert other programs. Who knows?

Umm no. From what I've heard, he has his eyes on blue bloods. He's very confident.

I've heard similar and that's why I said he was very confident. He has 1 summer left to earn attention from the elite programs. Right now it just isn't there. If we clear the summer the pressure turns up a bit. I bet he would jump on the offer if it comes to that. Every kid wants to play for Duke, Kentucky, Kansas, or UNC. But those schools only have so many spots. Once reality sets in his hopes will need to be scaled down to what is an actual possibility. Iowa will be your traditional comfort zone school. Could be different if ISU jumps in.

You may end up being right. Another thing is if we have another shitty season next year, he'll probably be a lot more hesitant with Fran.

Oh gawd! Hurts my head to even think about that. So I won't. Lalalala I can't hear you.
