2017-18 Basketball rotation... Best guess/wish list!

Agree with Dean's lineup. However, I think you want JBo playing 35 mpg. I know that isn't Fran's MO historically but he is the clear best player in the backcourt.

Pretty good summary and pretty much how I feel. I don't think Pemsl will start. I think Wagner will likely keep the starting 5 spot. I think he brings good Defense and Energy. The starting lineup will have more scorers with Cook, JBo, Baer and Moss. We need somebody who can score of the bench and I think Pemsl or even Kriener can be that guy. I still think Kriener's ceiling is higher than Pemsl so I think he could over take some minutes but I do like Pemsl's attitude and toughness. I don't know what to expect for Garza. Maybe he will be better than both Pemsl and Kriener. That would be a great sign. Nunge is probably the recruit I'm most excited about. I'll be a little disappointed if he can't take Uhls minutes.

One thing I would say is that Wagner is not the 5 when he is in there starting, I've heard many people say that. He's only about 6'6/6'7 so he has a tougher time guarding true post players.

This meant that Cook was tasked with guarding the opposing teams "5" man which often led to foul trouble. For instance Cook had to guard Happ and the big man from TCU.

Wagner's defensive versatility definitely helped in the starting lineup, I think I even remember him guarding Tony Carr Penn State's PG for a bit, but he can't really handle guarding true posts as a "5".

We offically only had one scholly this year until frans announcement dale was leaving a day ago. We are taking Three kids this class. If there is mutual interest they will find a way to make it work for someone that good. At least I think so.

It's a completely different situation. Dale Jones was never promised a scholarship for the upcoming season, just because the NCAA extends his eligibility it doesn't mean that Iowa is obligated to give him a scholarship for an additional year.

As far as I've heard Hauser's top 3 is Marquette, UW, and MSU in some order.

Maybe @RobHowe has more info on Hauser.

I heard Duke is looking into him too.

That's why I put (Jr Yr) behind Uthoff, which is when White started at the 4 and JU at the 3. Interestingly enough the year before Basabe started at the 4 and White at the 3.

White struggled at the 3 because he wasn't much of a 3pt threat. Both guys did better at the 4 spot but I think Jarrod would have excelled anywhere his SR year.

True, both of those guys did play the 3 some. Both were way out of position doing so, as neither had the lateral speed to defend the oppositions 3. We play lots of zone though, so they hide that defensive liability that way.

I could see 30-35 MPG. I would also say ideally CW develops this off season, and come play at the same time as Jordan for stretches, and Jordan can move to the 2 guard at those times.

It was all about getting the best players on the court. If Garza and Nunge are both really good and Nunge can pull off the 3 as well as White and Uthoff, it's going to have to happen.

PG- Jordan, CW
SG- Moss, Ellingson, CW
SF- Baer, Uhl, Dailey, Moss, Nunge
PF- Wagner, Pemsl, Nunge
C- Cook, Kriener, Garza

Connor redshirt.

True. I get that, but ideally I think Fran wants 1 PG, 2 wings, a stretch 4 and a post.

I don't think Fran really wants a point guard. Haven't really seen one yet. I haven't really seen 2 wings yet either, at least not much. One if they are one is truly another guard based on size in most instances. Take away Woodbury and who was the true post? He was truly a post in size, but not really ability (OK was on D).

In reality he likes 2 #2's, 2 #4s, and a #3 or at least what he does based on what he has maybe. But his recruiting lately has done little to change my opinion. Cook is a bit of an anomaly.

The question is how do you cut that rotation down to 10/11 guys? Fran has said a few times that Garza and Nunge will play.

Personally I'd like to see Cook spend most of his time at 4 next year, as it is his natural position. That's why I'm really hoping Garza is good. Maybe Kriener will make big strides this offseason too.

No true point guards? Cartwright and Dickerson were short fast black guys.

Based off a lot of people projecting Garza to start next year, I think some people will be disappointed. Kriener and Garza have similar games except Kriener is more athletic and year of experience in the BIG and yet I didn't see anyone project him to start and almost all had him playing behind Garza...
I'm very surprised to see there are no transfers this year, I think a lot of players are are going to become frustrated with their lack of minutes and lack of consistent minutes, albeit Bohannon.

He relentlessly recruited Marcus Paige and Tyler Ulis (along with others) because he didn't want a Point Guard.

Gold!

But, he hasn't gotten one. He hasn't recruited one he could actually get. Therefore one could surmise he doesn't want one very badly.

Interesting side note, Groce wanted high 4 and 5 star players and though a finalist always struck out. He finally gets a couple of really good players and is fired..and they go elsewhere.

So you're saying Iowa could be Kentucky if Fran would just want their players more? Sounds easy enough.

.
I'm Really hoping that is was some of that sophomore slump thing too! CW just seemed snake bit last year. Things almost have to improve for him.
