Obviously, not set in stone. Damon Powell hasn't had a chance to earn a spot yet. I would hope that Ruben Lile and Nico Law could eventually take over at the safety positions. They look to have good depth at corner and linebacker.

Not surprisingly, Rudock is the starter and I don't anticipate that changing.

Is this new or from end of Spring practice??

Pretty sure Donnal will become starting RG some time during the Fall drills. I am guessing will be other changes as well.

None of this is that surprising. But I do have some takeaways.

1) back to the FB in the depth chart rather than a y-back (which is just a 2nd te). This strikes me as I thought it was a good thing before as that is probably our strongest skill position and might be showing that the offense would utilize its talent better.

2) my guess is Donnal shifts to guard. Typically of goes with the 5 best linemen and he is probably 4th or 5th. Or maybe Walsh is starting to realize his potential.

3) I expected rudock and Sokol to be co starters and beathard to be the #2. This may indicate he is doing better in the coaches eyes than we know. I expect rudock to win the job but it may say something about what competition could be in 2014.

4) I expect canzeri to be the rb with the most carries. And I expect hill or Malloy to be #2 (Weisman would be co starter with canzeri) when the season really gets going. I think the coaches will move bullock to more of the slot as he will do more damage there (IMO).

5) not sold on Davis. He looks the part but is technically not sound and that is not a recipe for success at Iowa. I see Johnson or cooper over taking him, but still rotating.

6) it will be fun to see who emerges at de. I have a feeling we will see everyone on the two deep at de rotating early until they find the best group or rotation. Ekatitie will probably win the spot (IMO).

7) lowdermilk is not to be overlooked. Kid is a flat out athlete. If law is still making the same mistakes I expect lowdermilk to win the spot. And I don't think miller should be too comfortable with gair behind him.

I would be shocked if Canzeri gets the most carries. Weisman averaged over 5 yards per carry last year and I think we would have rode that horse even longer but he got dinged up. If he and our Oline stays healthy, I think he could have a huge year and be the #1 back.

Just my opinion of course.

I heard it too. Nothing confirmed, but there were a few cryptic posts, as well as someone stating they heard he hadn't been with the team since 7/4.

Usually when there is smoke there is fire... really hope that isn't the case here. That's the one position the Hawks simply need as many bodies competing against eachother as possible. Wilson's performance at the spring game seemed like a big surprise to the coaches so there's a chance it was a fluke, but at least he stepped up and showed he could perform.

I do know that him not being listed on the depth chart means nothing. Ferentz isn't going to list him on the depth chart simply because of one spring game performance. As we all know he typically gives the nod to the more experienced players.

There's all kinds of wrong in this post (IMO)

Weisman is good but he has a lot of limitations. I think canzeri will give us the home run threat we need. Weisman will most likely get hurt because he won't and can't avoid contact. I know canzeri is small but when he runs I see a similar back to Fred Russell and he did some good things and was undersized. Weisman probably will get more carries as I was going out on a limb here. Either way I think hill or Malloy actually are the two most well suited for the hawkeye run game.

Most people would elaborate instead of bland statements with no reasoning. I prefer a guy like herby (whose reasoning was illogical but at least he stated reasoning) to someone who just makes a comment without reasoning. At least enlighten me on how I am wrong.

Let the debates begin. I love it. I don't see Shumpert getting a ton of snaps from what little we've seen of him. Once Powell comes on I think it'll be KMM Cotton Hillyer Powell Smith with Bullock sprinkled in. If Weisman is healthy along with Canzeri I think that'll be your thunder and lightning with Bullock being a utility guy being put in motion out of the backfield in the slot doing alittle bit of everything. I don't think we'll see much of the fullback this yr. With 4 TEs being as good as they are they should be seeing alot of the field. Witch ever qb executes the play action plays the best I think will be who wins the job. Have to take advantage of that and not check down for 3 yards every dang time or whats the point in trying to "fool" the D.

Does this mean I need to start to learn the pronunciation of Venckus-Cucchiara's name or do I have another year to get it down?

You know, when you look at it on paper, the questions are where there are, QB and WR. That being said, there is depth and solid players everywhere else. The thing I like is that you have potential dominate players in alot of areas in the OL. Scherff and Blythe are the guys that already have 1st round potential...now it's time to see the maturity both mentally and physically that gets them there and translates to the field. I've heard nothing but great things about Donnal and Simmons also...that they are potentially very good players just needing experience. The other OL positions are solid with upside potential also. We are incredibly deep at TE, and we have size there. Our running game is going to be good, but Rudock or whomever is going to have to make plays, because teams are absolutely going to load up to stop the run...and we are going to see a ton of blitzes. I'm not worried about the RB position whatsoever. There are 4 guys that have shown they can make plays back there and turn 4 yard gains into 15. It all comes down to a QB making the right read, and being accurate. It doesn't have to be double move type of stuff, or cross the field outs, it just has to be solid TE routes and hitting your backs out of the backfield...to keep our offense on the field. That will loosen up some deep opps. It's going to be fun to see how this team comes out on August 31.

I agree with alot of what you wrote. To piggy back off your qbs making the right reads they also need to not zero in on their first read and stare them down. Easier said then done for a new qb but I think a quick shorter passing game with play action being used alot will help with that. And since the TE group should be a strength along with the running game that should help with a new qbs development

Hoping Iowa can find 2 guys at the safety spots between Lowdermilk, Gair, & Lile, maybe even one of the true freshman can make a move here.

Miller and Law look like they are in way over their heads at this level. Maybe the offseason was a good on for them but both have played the last two seasons and I haven't seen either one make any huge leaps so far.
