Howe is reporting that he exchanged texts with Anthony and he received an offer on his visit. No commit at this point, but apparently Anthony says this will not be the last time he is back in Iowa...time will tell.

Now, this is something that makes little sense, unless Anthony has more offers out there that we don't know about. Turns down Eastern, visits Iowa and gets and offer, but is playing wait and see, seems a little funny. So the question I have is, does he really have an offer? He may want to be taking his time, but it is confusing when there are no other Power Six schools going after him.

just goes to show that stars doesn't matter to Fran, 2* on rivals, scout and espn, he is a very good looking kid, strong defender, good handles, is a very good compliment to Gesselllooks like he could be a starter if Gesell gets hurt, otherwise would be a solid backup to spell him

Question: Why do you continue to bring up the * ranking when nobody else is? Just a question, not a jab.
Iowa does need a capable backup PG if any injury were to occur, so looking at this kid makes total sense.
Again, just a question, don't get defensive.

i guess it is brought up so many time on boards that i read, this player can't do this or he can't do that, i am on the Olaseni bandwagon , but the others say he won't contribute for 2-3 years because it takes time for bigs to develope, and then say that Woodbury will start from day one, the only difference i see is that one has stars and the other doesn't, so i get a little steamed, and i guess i am blowing off a little

Hey, it is all good, I am not one that likes to get too caught up in the * rankings, but I think for everyone's peace of mind, it is nice to see Iowa get a 4* here and there. If a player is a Top 250 type player, I will take them all day. With Clemmons, he may be an under the radar kid or he may just be nothing more than a scholarship. When kids have the higher rankings, the rate of fail can be less, but think about how many Division 1 schools there are compared to the lists. It is always a bigger deal when a player is not "highly" rated and performs well, but it shouldn't be because only a select number of kids get rated to begin with. It should be a bigger deal when kids underperform their rating.
On Olaseni, I think he should start at Center this year. He is a 6-10 athlete that is capable of running the floor, put him in and see what he can do on the rebounding side of things and blocking shots. My expectations from him are not high, just fill a void that has been missing, an athletic Center.

I would think we are set for 2012 so I don't get bringing in a 5th guy at this point. Why not bank the scholly for 2013 unless it is a big get for us.
At the end of the day Fran seems to know what he is doing so I trust him to get things going in the right direction.

that has been my thought on Olaseni,@ 6'10 he can run the floor like a deer, is more of a defensive minded player with range to 12 feet + he is a good FT shooter, I don't expect him to a being a scoring machine but i feel he can get 7-10 pts a game as well as the same in rebounds plus the block shots at 2-3 per game with his athletic ability

I like your expectations on what you think Olaseni will do, but it is rare that true centers put up those numbers in their freshman seasons, unless they are a special talent, like a Sullinger.
The 2-3 bpg would have led the BT last year, just cannot see that.
If Gabe gets the numbers you predict, then Iowa will win a lot more games that anyone will have predicted thus far. I hope you are right

he has a better chance than either Brommer or archie, the scoring is eay to predict, as i said he is good FT shooter, putbacks and dunks add up, at 6'10 and being a true center something we have not had for years, as for the blocks being a freshman people will challenge him, teams have not had to prepare for Iowa to have a center, nor will they be prepared for Fran's use of him, i expect to see him to get the blocks early and in the 2nd go around thru the BT for teams to adjust

also the major difference between what we will see between Fran and our lst 2 coaches is more scoring and the use of the center, and i truely believe we will have 4-5 dbl-digit scorers, the rebounding will also increase as the higher the score=more scorers needed=more shooting = more rebounding opportunity, people need to readjust their thinking to scores inthe 80's and 90's, somebody has to score and i doubt Gatens will get 25-30 ppgnor will Basabe score like that

Lowering your expectations now? I thought Gabe was going to average a double double?
2-3 blocks per game would be great. But there were only two Big Ten players last year that averaged over 1.59 Blocks Per Game. Keep that in mind when you set up expectations for a freshman.

i never said he was going to avg a dbl dbl, i said he could avg 8-10 ppg and 8-10 rpg big difference between asaying he will do a particular feat than saying a range of things, as for the blks nobody in the league tried to actually block shots, nowadays the bigs try tp shoot from the outside on the perimiter, he will pratrol like a true center, and i ask again other than the stars why should Woodbury be handed the starting spot

In previous posts you've hinted he would avg a double-double and several posters have called you on it. It's ok to back down from the prediction, I would too. Not saying Gabe won't ever average a dbl-dbl, but it's highly unlikely that he'll do it his frosh year. Your expectations are off the charts (and that's coming from me, a glass half full guy).
No one in the league actually tried to block shots? I don't even know how to deal with that comment. ??????

ok i will ask my question here as it becoming very clear you won't or can't answer it, i asked how does a kid from Europe get evaluated? he did not play during the summer AAU events and until he got here in the fall nobody saw him play til he was in Kansas where Fran saw him

Coaches around the country evaluated Gabe. He had some good schools look at him, and some offered. The coaches around the country do their own evaluations, they don't go off recruiting rankings. Either way Woodbury had more schools looking at him, and better offers on the table. If you look purely at that, it is obvious that the coaches around the country feel Woodbury is a better prospect.
Yet once again, who F ing cares? Now that they have signed, and Gabe is a Hawkeye, I hope to h*ll he excedes expectations, and that Woodbury lives up to his!
