2012 Recruiting Class

i guess i will have to face facts that you will skirt the issue and ignore the question, and that the star gazers will put him down because of that, so much for not looking at stars stormin, you proved that by your comment on Woodbury, it is very clear that those that have the star are clearly better than those that don't, we shall see how this season progresses as to how he does

It seems you are basing everything on on AAU coaches assessment of Gabe. You think the guy you know is the end all beat all of judging talent? I won't call you a "star gazer", instead we can call you a coaches "jock sniffer".....

i guess i will have to accept the fact that nobody can answer my question, and will prefer to make up arguements to make them feel better, and sad to see stormin make a complete 180 switch on his stance on stars, funny how in the spring after he committed ESPN ranked him as the 15th best center with a score of 92 which put him in their top 100, it wasn't til a member of HR e-mailed them about it and shortly afterward changed it to a NR score of 40, now i wonder why did they give him that rating and then suddenly remove it other than they realized that he was a Iowa commit, then next question is, what would peoples opinion of him had the ranking been left as is, my guess is everybody would be on the instant starter bandwagon, i am not going to say Woodbury will be the starter the day he steps on campus nor am i going to say he won't,BUT to say someone is flat out better than another at this time is foolish, until they play side by side i will withhold judgement, i have posted a comparision to back this up, "Lohaus" he was a McD AA, and didn't blossum until his senior year, another example would be the pair of "Payne & Stokes". Payne came in with all the hoopla and a higher ranking, but it was Stokes who had the better overall career and is the more remembered player of the two, so until they compete at the next level, lets wait until then to annoint one or the other the next great Hawk, who knows White might end up with the better career

You set up a straw man, and then are surprised you don't get an answer?

Since you base all your whole opinion of Gabe on one AAU coaches assessment, I have to ask what is his assessment of Woodbury? Also how many times did he see both of them play?

I hope Gabe is every bit as good as you advertise. I don't understand though why you feel you have to tear Woodbury down, to build Gabe up?

i never tore Woodbury down, i stated he earned his ranking and even stated the "people" note i said people and not person as in meaning more than one, that if he had not chosen Iowa he would be in the top 20 and a 5* recruit, again you prove that you read what you want to read and ignore the rest, all i have done is stick up for Olaseni, it is others that have dissed him, it is others that brought Woodbury into the conversation and there were not a lot of coaches who went to see Olaseni, there were some but most that went went to see Katenda,so other than the few that offered really didn't pay much attention to him, and the fact that Katenda was considering the ones he was it also limited his exposure, and yes the exposure kids get during the summer is what leads to further interest during their senior year, the real interest begins the summer between their soph and junior years, again it is on the AAU circuit kids get noticed and Olaseni never got that exposure, which led to my original question is, how was a kid from Europe to get that kind of exposure, and it appears you people can't or won't answer, and the know all of all things, stormin clearly can't answer, go ahead and chirp away and avoid the real issue

also before you jump me about the ESPN eval, all kids that commit, by most sites that evaluate, they do a quick eval of tapes and stats and a quick rating, rivals gave him an unranked 3* after committing, ESPN just left up a writeup on him, he didn't even show up on scout til after he committed

Nobody ripped on Olaseni. Some people think that Woodbury will start from day one. You seem to take offense at this, and you attack anyone who thinks that Woodbury will be better than Olaseni.....Not sure why you have this burr up your a$$, nobody is ripping Gabe.

thats funny i though somebody say that Woodbury would start from day one over a sophomore with him maybe having a year under his belt starting because he is better, and my responses is how do we know if Gabe is not a better player without going thru the process of evaluation, and then i asked how he was to get that evaluation before anyone can make that statement, and the one that claims Woodbury is better because of stars, runs and hides like a rat hiding from a cat, because of the question, instead of answering he lets you make it a arguement, not me, all i want is a answer, is that hard to explain or understand, to prove my point why hasn't been around to even try to answer, i guess what other say about stormin on the other boards, is that he is all big talk and has nothing to back it up, and when challenged he lets other try to back him up

I'm beginning to think Dragonhawk is related to, or is a good friend of Gabe's. It's the only explanation of how he acts on here. But based on the IP of the user, I highly doubt it. Which makes this even more weird.

actually i get very defensive of a player that get Dissed before they get a chance, the comment about him not showing much till 2-3 years pass, and then the comments about a freshmen starting over him after he may have been a starter for a year, its just pisses me off, all my life i have witnessed kids get shot down and degraded before being given a chance to prove themselves, and then they try to justify their remarks by trying to point out nothing even close to the topic, and then they can't answer a simple question

Wow really, you need to settle down...I just don't get why you are going off so fierce about Olaseni. There is not on person on this board that wants him to fail.
Just let it go, let Olaseni speak for himself with his game. Then you can go off about how everyone was wrong, relish in the moment.

No one is "dissing" Gabe. Far from that. Most just think you are putting unfair expectations on him, which is the truth.

I have no idea how good either of them will be, so this isn't a statement about Olaseni and Woodbury specifically, but in general, why is it so unreasonable to think that a freshman will play over a sophomore? That happens all the time in basketball.

no i am not putting unreal expectation on him, he will be the 5th option for scoring but the 1st option in getting rebounds and altering shots either by blocks or just having the height advantage of being 6'10 with a long wing span of a 7', with this team trying to avg 80+ points per game as the 5th option, it is not that hard to see him get 8-10 pts, this is not the Lick offense that barely got 40-50 a game, and are lucky to have one dbl digit scorer, this will be a offense that could and should have 4-5 dbl digit scorers, unless you see Gatens and Basabe avging 30 ppg each, in a uptempo game it is better to have 6-7 players that can avg dbl figure it makes it awful hard to shut the team down when anyone can score rather than have just one scorer where teams can play a box and one defense and then force the rest of the team to beat them, by your thought process he can't be a 5th option in a high scoring offense, lose the mentality of seeing scores in the 40-50 with one dbl didit scorer, unreal expectation on a kid is seeing him lead either the team or league in scoring, that is a unreal expectation i look for him to be the 5th option on the team and a starter because of who he is competing against for the center spot
