2012 Recruiting Class

HawkeyeInsider is reporting that Iowa is in close contact with Jalyn Pennie, a 6-7 Canadian forward that is in prep school in North Carolina right now and is planning to wait until the April signing period to commit. He doesn't have an offer right now, but he is a likely candidate should if Iowa elect to use all six scholarships or should a current player elect to leave the program sometime between now and April.

Here's a brief video that shows a teammate's put-back dunk and Pennie with a step back three.

we shall see when Iowa starts the season starts, how others and myself feel about him, as it appears most on this board has no confidence in him to do much for 2-3 years and end up riding the pine his entire career

Do you read anyone's posts?

Charles Mitchell. Any chance for the Hawks with this fella? Sounds like the perfect fit/the missing piece to the puzzle... Instant top of the B1G. Literally. A Jarryd Cole plus a couple inches & the muscle to go with it.
Any word how Fran's in home visit went??? Sorry if that has been posted.

ONE REMAINING SCHOLARSHIP LEFT TO FILL...

Has anyone noticed that the Big Ten is just hauling in recruit after recruit? There are individual teams doing well in other conferences, but the Big Ten is having multiple teams getting monster classes. The Big Ten will be down for a short period of time and looking for some Nat'l Champ in the coming years.

Are they really even "down"? OSU is a legitimate NC contender. Wisconsin and MSU are, as usual, very good teams. And there are any number of other mid tier teams who could be solid/postseason teams.

These top classes for Michigan, Michigan State, Indiana and Iowa aren't going to take long to make huge impacts especially considering the upward direction of programs like UM, IA, and Ind... and MSU is one of the more stable programs in the country.

I just don't really see where this "down" period is really going to come in the near future. The present and future are pretty bright for Big 10 hoops.

The down period is now...there is one legit team that can contend for the NC and it has been that way for a while. Yeah, Purdue and Wisconsin have been good, but not contenders. While OSU was really good last year, they again, will be the only team from the Big Ten that can compete for a NC.
Do you remember when MSU won thier NC? The Big Ten was extremely deep and the conference NCAA tourney record showed it. With the amount of talent coming in next year, teams like Iowa, Michigan and Indiana will make huge strides...Iowa's may be the shortest of those, but it will be giant compared to recent memory.
Ok, so add those three teams to OSU, Purdue, MSU and Wisconsin, that is seven teams with NCAA tourney aspirations and we haven't even talked about Illinios, Neb and NW...the depth in the BIG will be back. It will be so competitive to see who gets the 6th and 7th NCAA spots out of the league in the next few years.

MSU has 4 Final Four's since 2001. They made the Final Four in 2009 and 2010.

The Big Ten has had 4 different teams in the Final Four in the last 10 years.
MSU
OSU
Indiana
Illinois

they are looking at a couple Europeans, a Whittingham out of NYC
plus they are looking at another 7' when i get the names i will pass them along
also you forgot Clemmons is already signed

Markus Crider is showing up on Iowa's radar for 2012, looks like a prep school kid and interestingly he is a 6-6 wing/slasher...maybe Iowa uses the one open scholarship.
That would add a player at every position, with 2 PG's coming in.

Markus Crider - Yahoo! Sports

Jalyn Pennie 6'7 wing out of Canada that is attending
Christian Faither Center Academy in North Carolina
is another one to watch

Saw this come across a few moments ago that you would be interested in, per Alex Kline:

2012 C Mike Thiep (Concord Prep Academy, NC per way of London, England) has a top 5 of DePaul, Providence, Florida State, Iowa & St. Bonaventure.
