2011 Recruiting Class (Current Offers)

This is the type of player Iowa needs more than a big guy. Question: I know Iowa has offers to Katenda and his teammate and this kid, don't we have just two open scholarships or is this an indication that some players may be not coming back?
I don't see it as an indication of anything, really. They're going to offer more people than the number of available scholarships they have open.

Current known 2011 offers:

Eric Katenda (6-9) Combo Forward
Walter Pitchford (6-9) Combo Forward
Gabe Olaseni (6-9) Power Forward/Center
Elijah Carter (6-2) Combo Guard
Charles McKinney (6-4) Combo Guard

Thanks, updated.

Do you think McKinney is being recruited as primarily a SG or PG?

That I get, but it is funny to me to think that they would offer that many more at this point, I hope it isn't desperation. Also, there are so many confident that there are at least two that are Iowa's to lose and also folks wanting players like Archie/Brommer gone, it was just a thought.
Every team offers more than they have open, it only makes sense, but I was just wondering with all the talk of "pushing" players out because some fans don't like them.

Shooting guard, but I think with his defensive capabilities he would be called upon to put a lid on the opposing teams best guard. Not to say that he doesn't have a nice offensive arsenal, but I think he is primarily being recruited for his defensive prowess.

If McKinney commits this will get interesting. I'm assuming Iowa will pull all offers except Katenda, Olaseni, and Pitchford (or other front court players we're unaware of). Maybe this would put some pressure on them to commit.

Here's a new name to throw around. I have no reason to believe Iowa is recruiting him but he is a teammate of Charles McKinney

Ajayi is a 6'11 235 C who seems to be really under the radar (saw Wake Forest was interested). Sounds like he's extremely athletic and raw.

Another teammate is PG Anthony Fields who has a couple of mid-major offers but I think his recruiting will step up during the season

This is one of the best high school teams in the country. It will be interesting to see if Fran recruits anyone other than McKinney

Iowa should be in the hunt for a PG, Cartwright is a Junior and Payne being injured has really hurt Iowa this season. I know everyone is holding out for Marcus Paige, but can we wait that long?
I am going to throw a name out there Patrick Lucas-Perry, he at one time visited Iowa's campus and was high on the Hawks, he didn't play AAU this season and I see he has offers from Harvard, Oakland and Michigan State. I don't see him going to MSU, but he has family that went there and his brother plays at Oakland, so if family has anything to do with it maybe he ends up there.
This is a kid that is a true PG and can take over games on defense, in watching him he just knows how to play the game and can get to the rim, when needed.
As a sophomore he had a triple double against Detroit Country Day that had 8 kids and counting going to Division 1 schools, most recently Amir Williams going to OSU and Ray McCallum Jr last season. Lucas-Perry is a leader on the floor, I hope Iowa takes another look at him, after his initial visit he really liked the campus and the atmosphere at Iowa.

Thanks for the name. He also has a brother at Michigan but they are not a finalist school for him (he has an offer). It's probably too late for the Hawks to get involved but I would love to have him.

When did he visit. Was it when Fran or Lick was the coach?

Unfortunately, when Lick was coach, actually he and Cody Zeller were there at the same time. His brother tranferred to Oakland, he is no longer in Ann Arbor.
Add Cezar Guerrero to the list PG out of California, he decommitted from Western Kentucky. Rivals has him No. 61 overall and has Iowa as a team of interest.

Guerrero: my bad

I believe you meant Cezar Guerrero and I found very little with him and Iowa. I remember his name when I was investigating Sequele.

I Googled Guerrero and Iowa and this is what I found

There are tons of videos on this guy on YouTube but here's a pretty good one

No idea if we are really in contention but this guy is the real deal

He is rated as a Top 25 PG on Rivals, Iowa needs another PG on the roster.

As for guards, keep your eye out for former UConn and native Chicagoan Darius Smith who is currently doing a JUCO year at So. Idaho, and former Cyclone and native Chicagoan Chris Colvin who is doing a JUCO year at Palm Beach State.

p.s. Iowa has a new offer out to a 2011 NYC point guard named Shaquille Stokes who will be visiting Iowa in January.

Thanks McHawkin, good stuff!!!

Just a note on current recruiting rankings, Iowa is currently listed in the 8th spot and obviously, not nationally ranked with Oglesby and White, but here is the good news:
Northwestern, Wisconsin, Penn State all have their scholarships filled, but every team that is ahead of Iowa up to Michigan has only two players signed right now. I know Michigan (5th) is the only one that does not have any more scholarships available. With Iowa only having the two signed and being ahead of three teams already, Ogelsby and White are more highly regarded than some want to believe. Also, if Iowa can sign a couple of key players, say a PG like Eli Carter and a PF like Eric Katenda, how far up the rankings can they shoot up? I know it is speculation, but having two guys signed and being ranked above schools that have up to five players, is nothing but a positive, at least to me anyway.

Don't be surprised if this kid becomes a Hawkeye recruiting target pretty soon.
