2011 Recruiting Class (Current Offers)

Re: 2011 Recruiting Class

Thanks dnads just added Oglesby

Also I've come to realize that norstarbball --while a good blog-- is not always accurate. So I will not list their reported offers until I confirm them from a second source. Both Abron and Boga I now moved to "not sure".

Re: 2011 Recruiting Class

I wanted to organize something similar to what HomerHawk did for football so here goes my best shot at who we've offered please help me correct/edit this.

PG:
Chasson Randle (No chance)

SG:
Devin Coleman
Josh Oglesby
Aaron Thomas

SF:
Paul Jesperson (Virginia)
Tyler Harris
Ross Travis
Jarrod Uthoff (Wisconsin)

PF/C:
Thomas Gipson
Eric Katenda
Trey McDonald
Kamari Murphy
Cody Zeller (No chance)

Nut Sure:
PF Devonta Abron
PG Shaq Boga
PF/C Greg Sequele

Looks like you moved them to the "NUT" sure list. :D

Re: 2011 Recruiting Class

I don't see Iowa getting Katenda, he has an offer from Georgetown and he has taken Iowa out, for now, of his top five and replaced them with Michigan (who the heck knows why). John Behind at Michigan may not be there after this season if they can't finish higher than 7th, oh how they have wasted talent.
The one good thing about Katenda is that Coach Fran has been building a relationship with him for about two years.

Re: 2011 Recruiting Class

I would love for Iowa to land Gipson, he's the one on the list that fills immediate needs of this program. He is a freakishly athletic post.

Doesn't sound like he will make up his mind until this spring, though.

When I see Gipson, I think of DuJuan Blair. Good comparison?

Re: 2011 Recruiting Class

I don't think he has been offered but back in late May/early June Malcolm Moore was thrown around as a possible recruit for the 2011 class. MM is currently at Tyler JC in Texas.

MM may be more a fall back option at this point.

Yes, all Iowa needs is another academic question mark. Iowa would be much better off with a freshman that has some skill and can be developed and isn't an academic risk.

Re: 2011 Recruiting Class

Iowa has offered scoring PG, 6', Trey Burke out of Ohio. Decommit from Penn State.

WVU Recruiting Big Board: The Guards

Trey Burke – 6-0, 170 (Columbus, Ohio) Burke is an AAU teammate of 2012 ‘Eers commit Jaylen Robinson and he likes WVU a lot, but it’s unclear as to whether the ‘Eers will offer. Burke is a solid point guard who knows how to win, but he seems to be on the second tier of preferences at the point currently.
Since de-committing from Penn State this spring, he’s received offers from Cincinnati, Nebraska, Iowa and Western Kentucky. WVU is taking a look, as are Wake Forest, Georgia Tech, Clemson and Minnesota. ESPN ranks him as the No. 22 point guard and 99th-best overall prospect in the nation.
ESPN Evaluation: April, 2010: “Trey is a scoring point guard. He is good in transition where he is crafty and scores well in the paint. He is a solid basketball athlete so he can make athletic plays he's just not a sky walker. Burke is more of a scorer than a shooter though he is a solid shooter. He is creative offensively and can find ways to put the ball in the basket. He has a solid mid range game and has range on his shot to 22 feet. Trey makes solid decisions and is a decent creator. He is a very good defender. He uses his strength well on defense and takes pride in slowing down his opponent. For a point guard he is also a good rebounder. Burke always plays hard and is a very good competitor.â€￾

Re: 2011 Recruiting Class

I really think this team needs a first commit to anchor the class. Then it might be good if some guys wait a bit to commit.

I really think it all comes down to Cartwright, Marble, and Basabe. If these guys show that they are legit Big Ten players Iowa might get some more looks. This would be particularly true if a good piece of the 2011 class was already on board.

Agreed, I am hoping that is Oglesby commits, Coleman will be shortly after. The one I am waiting for is Thomas Gipson, he is physical and can do a lot of dirty work on the inside. Hopefully Dillard knows him very well, I did see he was going to wait until next spring to commit.
If Archie is only going to play one season like many think, then I hope Coach Fran can wait for some of these really good guys that he has offered and get one of them to come to Iowa (Katenda, Lawson, Gipson, McDonald, Thomas).

Can't view the video here at work but his description sounds like Rajon Rondo.

Trey Burke will end up at OSU or WVU, he can either join his teammate Sullinger, if he stays, and JD Weatherspoon and he stays home, or he can join his current HS teammate Jaylon Robinson at WVU. Either way, I would be shocked if he takes a serious look at Iowa, but I have seen him play a few times and I compare him to Ray McCallum, who ended up at Detroit to play for his dad, but he held offers from UCLA and Duke as well. Burke is not quite the athlete, but close and is more of a floor general.

If that is the case why is he listing Iowa, Penn State and Cincy as his favorites?

Oglesby, Moats, and Rosenberg? Not quite the types of recruits I was expecting.
Oglesby blew up this summer. If Illinois, ASU, and Minny think he's good enough for a scholly, why wouldn't that be a good get for Iowa? Especially if the recruit is a life-long Iowa fan?

Oglesby is now almost a concensus top 100 player. Not sure what CAAR expects, but top 100 meets my hopes, and slightly exceeds my expectations. Now, I concede I did not expect Uthoff and Oglesby to end up as top 100 kids, but they have,so I want them. Missed on Uthoff, but must hit on Josh.

If we end up with Brooks,Oglesby, Katenda and Travis, I would be very happy.
That could still happen. Lets keep a good thought,eh?
