1st 3 plays against Wisconsin

I'm not sure about the first three plays but I hope we can win the coin toss this week and defer to the second half. So far this year we are 0-3 in that department. I'd like to put our defense out there to start the game and set the tone.

1st play: seam pass to Fant.
2nd play off tackle stretch left.
3rd play, WR screen to Easley.
There will be a first down on the first play, but after the next two, it will be third and 7...

1) zone stretch to the short side of the field. IKM in his triumphant return gets the corner turned, but runs out of room, because we always seem to run this to the short side of the field. 2nd and 6.

2) Audible because Stanley sees something in the defense. Wisconsin knows every audible is a stretch run to the side where Stanley first started making the audible call. IKM gets stuffed for -1. 3rd and 7.

3) Another Audible! BF has suckered Whisky into thinking our tendency is to run the stretch play. Play is a handoff going exactly that way. RB stops flicks it back to Stanley who unloads a bomb to Fant who has gotten behind the defense who are flying up to the LOS. He focuses on actually catching the ball and jogs into the end zone.

Kinnick goes so crazy the television feed is short-circuited for the rest of the first quarter!

(Just kidding: we all know Stanley overthrows Fant by 5 yards. 4th down - punt.)

I hope they don't do because I think Wisky could be sitting on it. Iowa seems to quite often start off with that play action roll out pass to the TE to the flat. It's pretty safe but Wisky probably knows that Iowa sometimes starts with this play when want to establish the passing game.

I luv the play, though, as is relatively safe. I think they should do it a few times in a game instead of just once. Be careful starting the game with it though.

Why don't all of you negative motherf****** just watch your Hayden highlight films and STFU.
Why don’t you try actually watching a Hawkeye game to see what plays they usually start out with before you go calling people names.

If you could live bet this game I'd bet a good chunk of change that Iowa throws on first down.

1) short pass
2) zone blocking stretch run that gets blown up
3) shotgun draw
4) ????
5) Profit

I will grant that the initial question was a bit smartass but seriously? A bit of overreaction here? Seems more a bit of fun than negative mofo's… I'm not even remotely negative. Our offense is conservative, everybody here knows it. Shit, everybody in the big 10 knows it....

Right on! This has been discussed ad nauseum. And when Kirk thinks he has enough points to win he gets even more conservative. I brought up the example of the Georgia Tech game and how we were sewating out a game we should have been dominating.

Here's another example. 2005 Capitol One. When we went up 24-12 and LSU had their third QB in the game Kirk thought he had enough points to win. Before he knew it score was 25-24 LSU, leading to the Tate/Holloway heroics. Kirkball led to the 2009 Happy Valley and MSU wins and 2016 Michigan. It has also led to losses on other days. 2005 Northwestern and 2016 NDSU come to mind.

Run left twice, short pass short of 1st down. KF doesn't want to take any chances on the first series in the first conference game especially since it's against the Badgers. Too easy for Stanley to throw a pick 6. As with other QBs that had good 1st years, the off-season emphasis on eliminating mistakes shakes their confidence.

Leaning on our stout defense and hope to win with a score like 9 to 6 is the most likely game plan.

Not happening. Kirk wins the toss he receives, Badgers win they defer. Kirk loves him some getting the ball first.

He used to every time but has not chose this the last few years. I like it though as I think a team should get first crack at establishing field position and it ensures at least your team has an extra offense possession. In addition, it can provide consistency if a team always takes the ball and the other team usually defers if they win the toss. The team goes in mentally prepared they most likely will get the ball first. I've always been an advocate of taking the ball first, similar to the NFL pattern. Of course, this is dependent on inclement weather/wind.

All that motion and sweep action last week had to be for something...

Fake Jet Sweep PA to Fant for a first down

IKM Stretch to the short side for 4 yds

5 step drop intended for Smith on a comeback, incomplete.

They knew to show diverse plays. More for Wisky to prepare for this week.

I just want them to be like George Costanza and do the opposite of whatever they did last year.
