1 turnover, 0 points and 4 fouls from our starting PG

Also there is so much mental aspect to getting used to playing in front of big crowds and on tv. Let alone playing the speed of the game. Both CW and JB look like they have the physical ability If that's the case, once they get comfortable (especially JB) they might improve quickly. JB got a lot of shots up against the number 1 defense in the nation last night because he has an extremely quick release. That is a good sign for the future if you want to focus on positives, which I understand 2 guys here don't .
Don't drop any more basketball knowledge on us, please. We're still trying to get our heads around what you said in June.

I think most on here understood that we were going to have trouble at pg, but chose to be in denial. #Hope

That being said, I do think it's possible for a senior CW to be near what RDM was as a point guard. Again, not what we need, however. Fran needs to actually land a stud pg soon as well as figuring out defense.

In order to what? We were a late collapse from a 1 seed last year. We were a couple huge made 3's late in the game by the opponent (indiana and wisconsin) away from winning the Big 10. All with an average point guard. I get that it's easier to win with a great point guard (it's easier to win with great players period) but saying we can't without one is dumb.

We got to number 3 in the nation last year with Gesell. He was the same player during the collapse as he was before if. Uthoff falling off prevented is from the 1 seed in the NCAA tournament. If he would have continued is great play, we would have been a top 5 team with an average point guard. Exactly what you guys are sing is impossible to do.

I haven't seen anything that would show me that CW could average 10ppg. And if he could at wing, I think he could average 7-8 at PG. He is lacking confidence right now IMO.
A wing gets the benefit of moving without the ball. They get the benefit of being defended by a bigger and usually slower player from the wing. When you rebound well for your size, you can crash the boards and get put backs, like Baer does (guess where Baer plays?). You can't do that from the 1.
I don't get it. This is basketball 101 stuff. Square peg - round hole, simple concepts. Only the worst kind of moron would start Shaquille ONeal at the PG position and then argue that he's a Hall of Fame basketball player, so everything will be fine! You can take a very capable basketball player, play him out of position and end up making him look like a bad basketball player. Through absolutely no fault of his own!

CW could probably avg 10 PPG and 5 RPG at the 3. He's not a good shooter but he can attack the rim off the bounce and get put backs on offensive rebounds. He might be our best option at PG but that is an unacceptable failure on Fran's part. And that's what I have been saying since May.

I guess someone hacked your account when you said this.

You do know that the point guard eventually has to pass the ball and once he does he can move without it right?

My bad. I guess once the point guard passes the ball he has to go stand by the half court line.
Keep explaining how someone other than the PG is the better option to get the offense in the best position. Fran loves it. Have the PG give the ball up to someone else and then watch him work without the ball to get into the offense. Lol. You're a genius.

I am curious to see how the Hawks respond to last night's brutal beating, against Memphis. A good close game would be nice to see. Need to stop this drastic downward spiral that has begun, and stop it quickly.....

In reality we are undermanned at every position except wherever we play Jok and Baer. Dom has some experience but cannot be required to carry the team. That load falls on Jok, especially, and Baer.....

Not certain how far they can take us, while waiting for Everyone else to catch up. Tyler is getting there, but against a team like VIrginia with their stellar smothering D, he, along with everyone else was helpless.....

Just gonna have to strive for patience while Christian and Jordan learn the ropes.....

Nothing but Up from here on, be extremely difficult to match last night's debacle.....

Going into the year I I thought Iowa would be a bubble NCAA tourney team. As others have stated at best the PG position would be a "work in progress" this year. Make the tournament or not I will reassess at the end of the year if this can work long term or not. I am willing to give it some more time before I say 'fail'.

Keep explaining how once the point guard passes the ball, he has to get out of the way the rest of the possession. I'm watching now and it sure looks to me like the point guard stays involved without the ball. Weird.

I'll admit I was wrong. I even thought he might be the 2nd or 3rd leading scorer. I just thought be would be more aggressive and honestly thought his game might be similar to Marble as a taller PG but he's far from there.

He's not a scorer and not a PG.
