1.4 million to Jane (I assume Tracey will now get a check instead of a trial)

There's no hate for Barta, but the dude is incompetent and this outcome proves that. Slandering someone as a nasty woman is not the same as calling someone out for breaking the law as incompetent.

Why don't you go back to Cyclone Fanatic and quit being a douche on here. Barta may be incompetent, I won't argue that point, but he didn't break the law. Give me a break. This was a civil suit not a criminal trial.

This has already been litigated. You and your boy GB both lost. Given your penchant for losing perhaps you should be the one slinking back over to Cyclone Fanatic friend.

Where it all began.

EXCERPTS

Jane Meyer, who worked in the UI Athletics Department from 2001 until December, claims in the suit filed Wednesday in Polk County District Court the UI improperly paid her $70,000 less than a male counterpart and stripped Meyer of her duties when she complained about the firing of Tracey Griesbaum in August 2014.

Barta fired Griesbaum after an internal investigation reported several field hockey players complained Griesbaum was verbally abusive and pressured them to compete while injured. Other student-athletes and alumna disputed these statements and supported the ousted coach.

“Based upon the actions that Jane Meyer witnessed against herself, female coaches and other females, Jane Meyer filed a written complaint with Gary Barta on December 4, 2014,” the lawsuit states about the UI Athletics director. “On December 5, 2015, Gary Barta put Jane Meyer on administrative leave and removed her from the department of athletics.”

Another issue raised in Meyer’s lawsuit is Barta’s creation in 2014 of a deputy director of athletics position. Meyer had served as the top administrator for women’s sports and had overseen all Athletics facilities projects and operations, but Barta told her she would not be considered for the new post, the lawsuit states.

Instead, Barta hired Gene Taylor at a salary of $245,000 a year -- $75,600 more than the maximum pay outlined for his job classification. Meyer’s salary at that time was $173,154.

Barta assigned Taylor basketball and football, the two most prestigious sports, Meyer said in the suit.

“Over the past several years, Jane has observed a pattern of discrimination and bias against female coaches and athletes at the University of Iowa that is in striking contrast to the vision laid out for men’s and women’s sports when she was hired,” her attorney, Jill Zwagerman, said in a statement.

Meyer’s lawsuit demands she be reinstated to her position in the Athletic Department and for the UI to pay her lost earnings and benefits. She also wants the UI to require Athletics seek outside legal review of all employee disciplinary procedures, demotions and hiring decisions.

I didn't lose anything seeing as I wasn't involved in this in any capacity. I'm also not a fan of Barta. What I don't like is pathetic message board trolls like yourself coming in these threads to gloat about the University losing this suit.

Why do you think the university lawyers didn't go farther in their attacks on her character? The few things said by coaches seems to be moving in that direction, but not very far. It seems that proving she was a poor employee would have been a priority in disproving that actions taken against her were for other reasons.
That's a great question, but the guys on KGYM Radio today said that this trial was not about her character or being disliked by what sounds like everyone inside Iowa athletics, but rather she lost her job because she is a lesbian and was having an affair with a lesbian coach, and that Barta was being prejudice. Funny, the radio guys were talking about how bad the Iowa softball coach has been dong over the past 3 years, they pointed out that it would be hard for Barta to fire her right now or at seasons end because he is walking on eggshells. They made a good point that it is going to be really hard for Gary to do his job and how he handles coaches from here on out, especially female coaches.

Everyone says Barta has to go but to me these attorneys should no longer be retained for their poor advice in even taking this to trial, failure to see Meyer's attorney's probably cherry-picking of jurors that would have a certain world view, and not going after the fact she was a sub-standard employee.
"Sub standard employee" An on air radio guy at KGYM said on the air that he was talking to an Iowa coach recently about this case (didn't give a name) But this coach said Meyer was not good at her job and that she was a border line chronic liar.

which is what nearly everybody who knows or works with her has said. This case is a symptom of today's society... PC over rationale and reason.

You want to go full conspiracy theory on this? It wouldn't be a huge reach to consider that some in the University wanted to lose this case...and were happy to see it come together. It casts a pall on the athletic department almost exclusively.
It's no secret that significant factions on campus despise the athletic department and its power. (that's nothing new) What better social justice warrior to bring it down than an insider, Jane Meyer. 1.4 Million is a pittance when cultural revolution is your ultimate goal.

This whole thing is interesting. At the same time, it can't end fast enough. Barta may or may not need to go, I simply want a quick decision by the U of I, and move along. In reality, it'll take forever, include loads of scrutiny, rhetoric, and unsubstantiated opinion...such is life as its always been, now massively amplified by 24 hour news cycle, social media.

I find it strange how little I find myself caring about this entire thing, other than the social experiment aspect of it in terms of reaction.

There is so much behind the scenes noone will ever know.

If Barta needs to go....have a plan on replacement before it's necessary, that's all I ask.

So, who ya got, Kirk? Who you eyeing for the next AD?

Seems that jury based decision off of a poor defense by the U instead of plaintiff proving her claims.

Nobody's gloating about anything. The facts are the facts and just because someone says something you don't agree with snowflake, doesn't mean they are a troll. Now off to bed boy before mommy comes in and takes away your handheld.

I have yet to hear of any evidence provided to show discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender. Someone help me out.
It's not up to you. The case is over and eight people, both men and women, were unanimous in viewing the evidence by the letter of the law. The question is not whether GB broke the law, it's what do we do now given that his incompetence has cost the university millions of dollars and tarnished its reputation?

I always thought message boards were meant for discussion. Don't like other's opinions then don't come here snowflake.

There's discussion and then there's trolling. It's not sharing your opinion to just troll the thread. It's not surprising you don't know the difference though.
