    BIG TEN TONIGHT

While you are correct, one thing you forgot to mention was that KSU had two TD's called back on what even the announcers called phantom holding calls. Would have made the game a lot more interesting, eh?

Odds & Trends: Colorado State at Iowa

True. McBride has more receptions (30) than the next seven receivers combined. But LaPorta has 13 receptions and the next two have a total of 16 receptions. Iowa tends to throw to more receivers, it just seems like LaPorta has a lot more.

Minimum points required to win each Iowa game

In 1974, my freshman year, Wartburg beat Simpson 5-2. That same year we lost to Upper Iowa 7-3. In 1976, we beat Luther 3-0 on a wind-aided 40+ yard field goal. Got used to low scoring games. The bonus was I lived in Clinton Hall and my room overlooked the football field, so I didn't need to...

    Kent St Brought The Wood.

Wait, what? The backup QB, Calzada, threw one pass and it was intercepted. Their starting QB, King, had 3 interceptions. I'd hardly call that "snaps and passes". Yeah, they got about 600 yards in offense but a lot of that was negated with the 4 interceptions and the fumble they had - or did you...

    Passing game issues

In order to throw the ball deep, your line has to sustain blocks for at least 4 seconds. We may well get there as the season develops but right now we can't depend upon that, even for one play. Even with ISM, we didn't take many shots downfield until at least the 4th or 5th game of the season...

    Iowa-Kent State Stat

Well, TAMU didn't punt, which means they scored on every possession, and they had 2 interceptions of their own, one of which was returned for a TD.

Please Play Jacobs #5 at DE

Doesn't make sense. You want him to line up at DE but then call his coverage as a LB "amazing". I say leave him at LB and run a few blitz packages... but we won't see that for the next two games.

    Clay Helton out @ USC

He cheated. (Actually earned the nickname Sneaky Pete) He got the heaviest sanctions in NCAA history laid on USC and they were stripped of their national title. Of course, Carroll never skipped a beat and was hired by the Seahawks.

    Iowa +3.5 Who ya got?

I've got 1.5 acres inside the "city limits" of Muscatine. I see a number of snakes - mostly garter snakes - in the yard when I mow.

    Recruiting struggles continue

I see Brian Allen as a "good to have but don't need" recruit. He plays D-line and is a 3 star (.8577). We already have two D-linemen that are ranked higher: Caden Crawford is a 3 star (.8763) and Aaron Graves who is a 4 start (.9531).

    Garza signs

My wife went to Dexfield HS (Dexter and Redfield) and they had some really good teams when she was there. But they always lost to Niemeyer and Adel in the tournament. That was back when Iowa girls played 6 on 6.

Who else isn't sold on Petras still?

At least two of the times he was flushed from the pocket, he wisely threw the ball away as the two receivers on that side of the field were both double teamed.

Iowa ranked 9, Iowa State 15 in Fox Analyst Poll

Either that or they subscribe to "Matthew Loves Ball" or "Wheels" on YouTube.

    Iowa +3.5 Who ya got?

A lot of doubters were telling us that in 2017 ISU had all the cards in it's favor. Stanley had no business being the starter and he couldn't lead us to a win. Guess what? He did. I would posit that Petras is farther along at this point in his career than Stanley was. He's definitely more...

    Iowa-Indiana memories

I was at that game. Third row behind the Indiana bench. My brother, trombone section leader in the marching band, got the tickets for the wife and I. It was definitely a tale of two halves. Iowa couldn't do anything wrong in the first half and Indiana couldn't do anything wrong in the second...

Iowa's current recruiting ranking according to this site

I was that "immature skinny kid not get playing time". As a high school freshman I was a 5'10" way-too-skinny kid who just enjoyed sports even though I wasn't good at anything other than baseball. By my high school junior year I was 6'6" (still way too skinny) but found a love for basketball; I...

How Does IC and Iowa Stack Up in the Big

Nah. It's easy to get around Chicago. If you are from Iowa, you take I-80 to Princeton, IL, and pick up the train. Four trains a day go through Princeton to Union Station in Chicago. When I go to Chicago, I take the morning commuter train and get there by 10:30am. Parking at the Princeton...

    Austin Ash

Just to put this in perspective, here's a list of all the guards (point guards, shooting guards and combo guards) associated with the Big 10 who are in the portal along with their ratings from 247 Sports. None of the incoming guards are from Power 5 conferences (except Jamari Wheeler who is...

    Omaha Biliew?

Not to disrespect Lute, but exactly how many native Iowans played for Lute and made it to the NBA (or the ABA), besides Bob Hansen?

    Riley Mulvey Reclassifies to ‘21

I didn't have a car until I was a senior in college. There were a few times I crawled out of Joe's KnightHawk, though!
