Iowa-Indiana memories

Interested to hear anyone’s takes. The ‘88 game stands out. Hartlieb threw for like 500 yards and we still lost. ‘01 was a special one I thought. Randle-El should have won Heisman that year. To finally beat him was cool! Then Sash and the ‘09 game was crazy.

I'm always partial to the pinball interception, where we batted the ball down, it bounced off of 3 or 4 linemen's backs, and Sash snagged it and ran it back for a touchdown. Don't remember what year it was (08 or 09 maybe?), but that is such a fun highlight to watch.

My first game at kinnick was in 96 or 97 against indiana. Timmy d went off and scored every way imaginable. Man that dude was amazing.

1979 IU _ Iowa - Hayden's first game as Hawkeye coach. Even though it was a heart breaking loss, the Hawks were suddenly both fun to watch and competitive!
Iowa offense spread Indiana from sideline to sideline, then ran through the gaps. After years of the '50's era wing-t formation and running (ineffectively) between the tackles it was very welcome.
A sea change for Iowa football.

The '79 game will always be special to me too. My first game attending at Kinnick. Rick Brown has a great write-up on that game, one that I'll never forget.

2001 - Sitting Row 3 on metal bleachers in North end zone.
11 yr old daughter w/ me.
She says "I thought we were playing Indiana? What team is 'Randle-El'?
That's all you heard all day on the PA.

Hawks win 42-28, but Antwaan Randle El was special

I was at that game. Like you said we lost but the fans left the stadium with the first glimmer of hope we have had in a long time.

2009. Iowa was getting its shit pushed in too. Like 24-7. Then indiana just stopped playing defense.

I was at that game. Third row behind the Indiana bench. My brother, trombone section leader in the marching band, got the tickets for the wife and I. It was definitely a tale of two halves. Iowa couldn't do anything wrong in the first half and Indiana couldn't do anything wrong in the second half.

But yeah, definitely had a lot of positive to look forward to.
