    Big Ten’s Top 25 Players: 25-21

They've got White at #17. I'm assuming Marble and White will be the only Iowa players ranked. On another note, I realize college basketball is all about recruiting, but it's bizarre to me that this list already has three incoming freshmen who haven't played a minute ranked ahead of Devyn.

My Year By Year Iowa Football Prediction: 2001-2011

I don't see that there's too much to get worked up about here. The reality is that if you wanted to be the most "accurate" predictor of Iowa's record, you would put them at 7-5 or 8-4 every year. There'd be no looking at the schedule, no assessing matchups or returning starters-- you'd just spit...

    This upsets me..

You might point out that Iowa State only fields 6 men's sports to Iowa's 10, and that they have 10 women's teams to Iowa's 12. It's tough to brag about an athletic department with six men's sports teams.

    Canzeri Practicing

Um, I think it's safe to say we're in trouble at running back. What else needs to happen for us to be in "deep trouble"? Does the earth need to open up and swallow Greg Garmon?

50 in 50 Series - will the Hawks make the cut?

The methodology they use will reward Iowa for itss consistency pre-Lickliter. But I'm kind of scratching my head at a system that puts NC State and their two national titles behind schools that have never made the Final Four (e.g. St. Joseph's).

Rothstein Files: 5 questions entering the B1G

Good read. My answers to Rothstein's questions: 1. No. 2. Poorly at first, better by the end of the season. 3. Yes. 4. No. 5. Purdue.

Position rankings: Specialists (units) - espn.com

Yeah, and even he missed his share inside the 40: Nate Kaeding Profile - Iowa Official Athletic Site Inside the 40, he was 6/12 (!) as a freshman, 8/11 as a sophomore, 13/15 as a junior, and 16/17 as a senior. This is one of the best kickers in the history of the Big Ten if not all of...

Position rankings: Specialists (units) - espn.com

You realize that this is a pretty impossible standard, right? You show me a kicker who hasn't missed from inside 40, and I'll show you a guy who doesn't attempt very many kicks.

Position rankings: Specialists (units) - espn.com

It's kind of silly to say that Mike Meyer isn't a good field goal kicker. He's 28-37 on field goals for his career (76%) and has hit 97% of his extra points, including 100% last year. Last year wasn't amazing, by any means, but 4 of his 6 misses were from outside 40 yards-- he was 5/9 from 40+...

Pieces from the Past: Alford surely isn’t too shy - gazette.com

From the article: So the Bowlsbyization of Iowa athletics is now complete with football coach Kirk Ferentz and wrestling coach (Mr. 2-for-2 in the NCAA Championships) Jim Zalesky. In 1999, how many Hawk fans could have predicted that Ferentz would outlast Alford, Zelesky, and Bowlsby?

    $EC at it again...................

Everyone, especially college coaches, likes to complain that the NCAA rule book is too long and complicated. But crap like this is exactly why it has to be so long. If you don't have a rule that explicitly states something can't be done, you'd better believe there's a coach out there who will do it.

    Greatest American Male Olympian?

No, I'm just countering a point made earlier in the thread that Phelps is amazing because he does so many different events and strokes. In swimming, it's not that unique. Lewis's success in both the sprints and the long jump is far rarer, and he won the LJ in four straight Olympics (and couldn't...

    Greatest American Male Olympian?

I disagree. Every Olympics there is a swimmer who is able to dominate a wide range of distances and strokes-- Mark Spitz, Matt Biondi, Janet Evans, etc. Look at Missy Franklin this year. It's just not rare to see a swimmer with a huge range of events. What is rare is to see them extend that over...

    Penn st appealing?

You realize that coming from a different conference or a different school doesn't automatically mean you don't have integrity, right? You may want to consider the possibility that university presidents have the ability to set aside, if even for a moment, the ******* matches between their fans...

Freshman Nate Meier working at RB

I don't see how anyone can really argue with this point. However, of all positions, do you think it's fair to say that running back might be one of the easiest to make the transition from 8-man to 11-man? It seems to me that everything that happens between the handoff and the first level of the...

    Penn st appealing?

Good god, yes, I'm willing to put the fate of Iowa's athletics program in someone else's hands IF we ended up in a similar situation-- i.e., a rape or murder that is covered up at the highest levels of the institution. I don't care if the committee deciding our fate is made up of SEC schools...

    Penn st appealing?

The appeal has been brought forward by four members of a 32-person Board of Trustees. It will be denied, they'll sue, and their lawsuit will be dismissed, because they have no standing to sue. It's pretty much a sideshow.

    Greatest American Male Olympian?

Two more notes about Lewis: 1. It's easy to assume that the long jump/100 meter combo isn't a big deal, because at the high school level all of the fastest sprinters do the long jump (and because we know Jesse Owens pulled off the same combination). But in the modern era (post-1960), Lewis is...

    Greatest American Male Olympian?

You might want to do some Carl Lewis research. Start here: Carl Lewis - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia That's nine gold medals and one silver, across 4 Olympics. He won four Olympic long jump golds in a row. He also qualified for the Moscow Olympics in the long jump and 4x100, missing...
