I think Fran will get it done at Iowa, but this loss is on him, 37 seconds left and down 4 and Iowa waits until 17 seconds left to foul? Seriously, how nice would it have been to have even 5 of those seconds left so McCabe doesn't have to throw it down the court.

that seemed to be marbles fault who subbed in for bryce

Yes, he let Williams bring the ball right up the court, but someone should have been screaming FOUL.

When they can basically run the clock out you don't have any options, even if it is their best free throw shooter.

Who knows what Fran actually told them before that play. But without him pulling the starters five minutes in, we lose by 20. He made about every move you could make to keep us in a game where we gave up 14 3s.

you try to force to TO before you foul

Dude, with 30 seconds left they had the ball over midcourt, FOUL THEN, yes NW almost turned it over but that is how the foul even happened in the first place. I'm not sure Iowa even fouls if that doesn't happen.

I think I'm with Scotty on this one. NW inbounded with 37 seconds left, and by the time Iowa fouled there were 13 seconds left. If you're going to foul, foul immediately, or unless you can't get a turnover. Don't let 25 seconds burn off the clock.

We either have another suspect in-game coaching staff....or a very dumb basketball team. I hope it's not both.

I am tired of that stupid *** pass all the way down the court. It never works you don't even give yourself a chance to shoot. With 3 sec. left you can still hit Cartwright near half court and let him try to create an open look for someone!

No, they didn't want to foul Juice or Shurna.

The real problem was they didn't get the foul when neither of them had the ball. They missed on 2 separate occasions at the 25 sec mark.

I understand not wanting to shoot a good FT shooter, but TIME is more important that FT% when it's a 2 possession game under 30 sec to go.

Thank you Spank, I guess in a way that is what I was trying to say, if you foul Juice with 30 seconds left and he makes both it is still a 2 possession game so the time is more important.

Yeah thats the real reason they lost.

Jon pointed this out in the chat and I rewatched it as well.

Bryce and Gatens were both face guarded and could not get back to the ball. Iowa did not have a timeout left. McCabe couldn't take the 5 sec call. Cole was actually open, just a tough pass by a former high school QB. Cole almost used his tight end hands to snare it.

I think they were told to foul, but not to foul Shurna or Williams if they could help it. They had a chance to foul Crawford on the wing and did not execute. Sometimes, there is a vapor lock out there.

I liked final play call. Ball just overthrown to Cole. If he catches on free throw line he has Gatens one wing and Stoermer on other wing open for the three attempt. Also Cartwright was coming in late at top of key for 3 pt attempt as well.

If you give the ball to Cartwright at half court one of two things will happen:
1. they foul him and he shoots 2 free throws when we down by 3 or
2. he takes 2-3 dribbles around defenders and launches up a 40+ foot three point shot.

Ill take our play call any day. Just didn't execute it perfectly.

There has to be something we can do to get Bryce or Matt open then. Every other team seems to be able to get whoever they want to have the ball open so surely we can get one of'em open. I'm just saying that play never works so try something different.

You said it "perfectly" and that's what that play has to be to work. I'll take a 40 footer over what we got how bout you?
