Has There Ever Been A More Epic Collapse...

...than what's happened to Penn State this year? If they lose to MSU this weekend I can't really think of one.

Went from making the CFP and finishing ranked #4 to going winless in conference against some seriously mediocre teams. Fired their coach, lost their QB and some others, became the first team in history to lose consecutive games in which they were favored by 20 points or more. State College is an unmitigated tire fire.

Maybe it's happened to another team before, I just can't bring one to mind off the top of my head.

I like it.

And who are they going to hire as their coach? I'm not saying they won't get someone halfway decent but they aren't going to get the game changer they set out to get. #4 last year was probably their ceiling. For all of Franklin's faults, the guy could recruit. The next guy may not be as good.

Maybe not as big a collapse, but I was trying to think what team was as snakebit as Penn St this year so far:

Lost in 2OT to Oregon
Lost by 5 @UCLA
Lost by 1 to NW
Lost by 1 @iowa
Lost to Ohio St
Lost by 3 to Indiana

One team that comes to mind is 2013 NW. NW was ranked #16, then went on a long improbable 7-game losing streak, which included

Lost to Ohio St in close game after leading in 4Q
Lost to Minn by 3
Lost to Iowa in OT
Lost to Mich In 3OT
Lost to Neb by 3 on last second hail Mary TD pass.

Let’s just hope they’re the next Wisconsin. I’ve been to Unhappy Valley and their fans are as entitled as nebraska‘s. The only difference is most of them are Richie Rich trust fund babies and with the money they all spend expecting to be the best it’s gonna hurt their feelings a whole lot more.

The big difference is NW doesn’t ever have a history of being winners, i.e an extended string of even .500 seasons. He’ll, 1995 was their second bowl game ever and the only one before that was in 1948. Any win at NW is just a bonus and probably always will be. They expect to lose so when they fall on their faces it’s just a repeat of history.

#2 preseason to the bottom. Doesn’t get any worse. They have added not being able to win the close ones to not being able to win the big ones
